Hello everyone, thanks a lot for the very warm welcome.

I'm taking a mate of mine to the match tomorrow and then we're heading into town for a couple of sherberts. I wonder if any of you have any suggestions for the best 'old man' boozers that we should visit.

I thought 'Ye hole in ye wall', 'White Star', 'Caernaervon?' 'Roscoe Head'.

Thanks.

The Liverpool in James Street has live music on a Saturday. Should have a good night in there.

Cheers. Some great suggestions there. Spoilt for choice really.

Is it Dale St end or Renshaw St end.

I wonder does anyone know what the 5 oldest pubs in the city centre are?

I think there's two possibilities for mini crawls, but you shouldnt call them 'old man boozers' as plenty of youngsters are going into the real ale pubs now.

One would be Dale St/Tithebarn St taking in the Ship & Mitre, Hole in the Wall, Rigbys, Vernon, Lion, Railway.
Another would be nearer to Hardman St doing Kelly's Dispensary, Roscoe Arms, Fly in the loaf, Ye Cracke, Philharmonic.

Ye Hole in Ye Wall claims to be the oldest pub in the city centre, with Rigbys not far behind.

You should have included The Swan on this one
