I don't know if Rutter Street was photographed, but the very next street (Jordan Place) was prior to demolition. The area around Rutter Street, Clive Street, Shelley Street and Jordan Place was a mix of terraced housing and tenements.
These are from Liverpool Records Office:
Clive Street, 1933 (tenements in background)
Jordan Place (flag alley), 1960 (taken from Mill Street end)

Lovely, Marky.
Is that a dust cart?
And has it had an argument with the lamp post?

To give you an idea of the area, that Jordan Place pic was listed under 'Slums' on the Liverpool Library site I got it off.
I keep meaning to take a look someday at the sequence of pics taken during slum clearance:
RefNo 352 ENG/2/20569-20581
Title Housing Clearance Areas, Prince William Street Area; Jordan Place Area
Date 08/04/1960

Hi Phil
I do but I have to look after my disabled wife and for reasons cannot get to the records office without leaving her for to long.
Hence any requests I make from people or this forum, I hope you can understand my position.

OK Dave.
I go to the library about once a week, but I'm sure there are people on here who will be able to tell you what's available on-line.
Something I could do with some help about also, folks.

I've actually done this when i've had plenty of time to spare. I see it as a hobby rather than a chore.

http://www.mersey-gateway.org/

I have typed practically everything I can think of into the search feature, even the word street which comes up with hundreds of hits, type away...

Here is the 1905-08 OS map from toxteth.net.
http://www.toxteth.net/maps/liverpool/lpool0f.htm
toxteth.net is a great site.
The map is interactive - try clicking on some of the featured buildings.

The next OS map was the 1927 issue which was surveyed in 1925.
Here's a scan of my photocopy (the original is in the LRO).
I hope you don't mind, but I coloured it years ago.
4 cinemas were planned in the vicinity of the Pavilion (which opened in 1908) but only the Smithdown Picture Playhouse marked as "Picture Theatre" was built. That's been demolished. Kwik Save is on the site.

Of the streets mentioned above, the only one I've seen around is the Arthur Street pic on Toxteth.net

A big thank you for time and effort in answering my requests.
I hope you I have not put anyone out by asking for things.
Thank you again Phil
