You may have seen it on the news this week about the petrol station credit card scam. This problem has been around for a few years but just lately it has been happening more frequently again. Unfortunately the problem raised it's ugly head in L'pool and this last week I have heard of a number of people being ripped off.
Thought I should mention it here so people can be aware and to be careful.
My mum's neighbour lost over a thousand pounds through this credit card scam. Needless to say she is gutted at losing that amount of money. The money was drawn from her account outside of the UK.
Since then, we have heard of 6 other people in the Anfield area who have had this happen to them. There are a couple of petrol stations now under investigation from the fraud squad.

I recall one of our members here saying they were ripped off recently.
Was it one of the Steves ?? Sorry, I'm not sure which member it was but I do remember reading the post.

It was mine, happened to a work colleague too and both of us used the same petrol station in the Anfield area. Mine was picked up straight away as the card was used in Malaysia within hours of me using it in the UK so I havent had the shock of seeing a nasty bill.

I thought the 'chip and pin' was supposed to stop all this?

It was, but some card machines have been,"doctored", so the pin number
can be found. I checked my bank statement a few weeks back and found
that I had used an online casino in Cyprus, needless to say wasn't me and
the casino concerned when I emailed the agreed and refunded my money
was only £40 but that ain't the point. My advice is if possible pay cash
for petrol even if it means going to your bank to get it.

Yes, I thought it was you SteveH. I just wanted to be sure.

It's the same petrol station in Anfield .. it must be the same one ??

Don't know if it can be named - but lets just say it's near to the LFC football ground.
I've heard of several people been caught out using that same place.

I've been told about one in the Edge lane area too.

the best thing to do is to avoid these petrol stations or just pay cash.

(By the way - it's not the one on Priory rd .. they are ok there and all above board. We have used them for years and know one of the staff.)

I won't use Credit or Debit cards. Am too paranoid. I won't give no personal info over the net. Too many people can hack into your personal details and rob you blind. At least when someone robs your cash you have a half chance of giving them a crack.
