A LIVERPOOL glitterati of diplomats, cultural leaders, politicians and rock stars have been invited to a film commemorating a block of tenements which were demolished 20 years ago.
And in keeping with this Hollywood-style approach to the event, souvenir mugs, key rings fridge stickers and letter openers featuring Gerard Gardens in their heyday are to be presented to VIP guests.
One of the mugs is decorated with an image of the blocks based on Sir Peter Blake’s cover for the Beatles’ Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album – except all the figures on this version had some connection with Gerard Gardens, which stood on the streets that once formed Liverpool’s Little Italy in the Vauxhall area off Scotland Road.
The 80-minute film called Gardens of Stone was made by Paul Sudbury, 43, now a bank manager, who lived in the adjacent Gerard Crescent as a little boy.
