View Full Version : River Mersey Sand Banks
Must show you this from yesterday.
I spotted something strange on the sand banks of the River Mersey yesterday morning and decided to investigate with my god-like zoom (blame Maxy for that phrase). Look what I spotted: (scroll across if the image is too big)

What is it? It has the Liverpool 08 symbol on it.
Holy crap, Kev found the hippy I killed!
I wrapped him up In Liverpool 08 towel which I caught him smoking pot on!
I just thought It was blasphemous that he was besmirching the capital of culture name by smoking pot In It's face through It's merchandise.
It looks like some Inflatable stress tool you punch.

Don't know Kev. I'll have to think about it.
Cracking photos, by the way:handclap:
scouserdave 04-12-2007, 06:44 PM Kev, I wonder if it's a marine air bag? Still doesn't explain the logo though. [scratches head]

It's weird init? I first though maybe a pleasure cruise or some other kind of celebration aboard a boat may have threw something over-board but it cannot be that otherwise it would be out in the sea by now.
No doubt the Echo will run a story about it in a week or two.

That would be my guess or else one of the things that they have over the side of a vessel to cushion the landing. Like they used to use old tires for on the Mersey ferry boats (maybe they still do).

snappel 04-12-2007, 07:58 PM Is it not just a buoy??
Howell 04-12-2007, 09:47 PM I think it's a buoy to show where the sand bank is on a high tide! :)
It's deffo not a buoy, I can't see the willy. How far is Roswell?
Is it not just a buoy??
A buoy but why the 08? A bit odd in the middle of the Mersey....

It's rainin' men!
scouserdave 04-13-2007, 12:10 AM Eh Chris, slightly off topic, but how do you pronounce buoy seeing as you've been in the US for quite a while. "Boy" or "Booey?"
Sloyne 04-13-2007, 12:32 AM They look very much like fenders and are used for keeping the ships/boats sides from contact with the dock.
Steven 04-13-2007, 12:35 AM I think it's a buoy to show where the sand bank is on a high tide! :)
You have got it correct 'Our Kid' - It should have been painted red > red, returning.
Steven 04-13-2007, 12:36 AM We just pronounce it *Boy*
naked lilac 04-13-2007, 12:51 AM Eh Chris, slightly off topic, but how do you pronounce buoy seeing as you've been in the US for quite a while. "Boy" or "Booey?"

I guess I am American influenced on that one, since I do say "Booey." I still though say "Tomarrrrto."

marky 04-13-2007, 09:51 AM I've seen similar shaped buoys to that one when there are powerboat races on the river (to mark out the course).
Steven 12-26-2007, 04:45 PM They are marker buoys. There is a sailing club nearby. They signify *Red Right returning* The 08 is simply an 8 mile sign from the Bar at Jordan's bank.
People race their 'Fireflies' around them. Usually, they are picked up. Maybe the boatman was bevvied ?
lindylou 12-27-2007, 04:23 PM If anyone said 'booey' to me I wouldn't have a clue what they meant ! lol :D
I've never heard buoy pronounced that way.

Hi, Lindy, have you ever heard the expression "Phooey?" :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
By the way, when I originally saw that photograph of Kev's the Liverpool 08 logo was quite obvious, and I still think that is what it is. So I wonder if it is a mile 8 marker as Steven says.

phredd 12-27-2007, 05:17 PM For all you non-seafarers out there (land lubbers) here is an easy way way to remember Port and Starboard >>>>>
Red = Port = Left ...... Short words.
Green = Starboard = Right .......... Long words.
"note the length of each word.

Oh sure, that's too complicated for us landlubbers who can't even tell our left from our right. :)
