I have seen that Lidy and other persons are interested in the genealogy, in a good post that she opened. I am fond, but I want to share my resources with other users. Some page is a good resource, to locate contemporary relatives. I have observed for that great people looking for their family.

Hello RayT.

Higham St was off Roscommon St, about half way up on the right hand side, the other end leading into Cornwall st. only a short st with a few houses at the Cornwall St end.

Long gone, the area is part of a park now.

Blake St and Pellow St where off Copperas Hill, where the Post office sorting office now stands.

found out that Great, great grandad was a fisherman is there any information about the fishing industry in liverpool and how i could find out if he worked on certain boats etc..... any help greatly appreciated am now to all this and have got as far as i think i can:)

Ged, just had a look at this page, I thought there was something of the peasent in you.


My wifes grandparents came from Newry, settled in Bond St off Bevington Bush. Her grandfather was lost at sea and her dad and his brother ended up in the Seamans Orphanage.

It seems a lot came over and lodged together. There is one census when John Fagan is lodging with his son Peter and others from Newry.

During a false alarm when other Fagans were being looked at but turned out not to be down our line, other groups of lodgers from Ireland were on the census having made it over from the famine.

Love that photo of your Dad reading the paper in his Navy days, and very glad to see you include the famine statues in Dublin. They are very moving statues and Liverpool should place some here to mark those that arrived.

Thanks Spike. Yes, that photo is treasured though I remember him looking back at the war a bit flippantly. He was obviously proud of having done his bit and told me how they enlisted, the route they took to Torbruk up the suez etc and he always used to watch the war documentaries but all in all he said he got a round the world cruise for free.

The famine statues mark the very reason i'm probably born in Liverpool so just had to be added.

Just found that there's photos of Maddox street in the LRO so will have to get some, it was right next to the original St. Martins market on Scottie.
