Most families have things they think are embarrassing and wish not to talk about. It all adds to the fun of genealogy in teasing out the past. I've researched our family worldwide. It's great fun and addictive and would recommend the hobby to anyone.

Hiya Taffy,
If only my dad and his parents could know how proud this info has made me,
My dads g dad was in the army (Sergeant Major) and all his uncles where army people too.My Dads mum was disowned by her family for getting married to a "commoner"---My granddad:eek: ........this is when she came to live in Liverpool :)

If you go back far enough Marie ( a few thousand years), you'll find large numbers of your ancestors ended up in Wales. This has been determined by comparisons of DNA analyses from different populations around Europe.

I've been doing my tree for about 4 years but only got to about early 1800's with the Liverpool sides of my family :disgust:
but the Suffolk side of my family has been overdone going back to 1500's so many people are connected to the Foremans from the little village of Pakenham in Suffolk there was nothing left for me to do :PDT_Xtremez_12:

Been researching my tree for a couple of years back to 1720, the good thing was like Mandys family mine stayed in the same village called Broseley in Shropshire before moving to Liverpool early 1900s.
Had alot of success and have had emails from connecting family trees.

Have a family tree website with over 4000 hits from all over the world.

I found my Aunt after 25 years while doing my tree we lost contact after my mum & dad divorced ,she told about my gt gran who had been charged with killing her twin grandchildren, unfortunatly my aunt didn't know any other details because it was all hushed up & no-one spoke of it
my gt gran seems to have been a very nasty woman as she had 15 children only 3 survived, she also looked after her brothers baby when his wife died of TB the baby soon died of severe malnutrition
My Aunt also told me that my Gt gran locked my mum & her sister in a cellar while babysitting them

I love a good murder mystery:PDT10
I tell my kids to behave because it might run in the family:unibrow: :ninja:

I just started mine, I trace mine back to Cork and England

As far as I know one side of my family was in the British army at one point and the other side in the IRA during the early 20th century, what a great family reunion that would be

john
04-09-2007, 04:36 PM
At last the People search/family tree section has found its voice, some great stories I like Dades that would be some family reunion.
In my family if a child died as a baby the next child born of the same sex would be given the dead childs name, this really threw me until I realised what was happening, so I would come across two Elizabeths to the same parents, once you get into following the evidence that you realise what has happened, this happens lots of times over the generations.
Have people come across similar?

Have a look at this site
http://www.spatial-literacy.org/UCLnames/default.aspx

when you do a search for 1881 all people with my surname live mainly in one area Shropshire and Welsh Borders, in 1998 we are stiill in the same area with small pockets in Merseyside, Midlands and a small area of Lancashire.

welcome Dade, I,ve found my present aunt who has married into our family has ancestry with the I.R.A. In fact they were shot by the British after the Easter Rising of 1913. Now if my Ganny was to meet up with them half would be gun running and half would be getting ale out of Cain,s brewery.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

yes John, I,ve come across two Elizabeths in my tree, thought about one dying but couldn,t find the death cert. for the first one. Makes me think they got rid of her by other means. I,ve heard of people burying their dead babys in the garden or throwing them in rivers etc. found a feotus in the bingo club I worked in once and that was back in the seventies. I,ve also found my relatives in an Americans tree and she has got them all mixed up, my relatives with hers. Sometimes they just plump for the first name that seems to fit in with their ideas. You have to cross match and confirm in this family tree business.

The net effect of this Iberian immigration these days is that many Welsh people are typically dark skinned and short. We might even be cousins Marie !!!

Hi all been doing mine on and off for 15 years it becomes addictive and then you leave it for ages. Wish I could visit all the places my lot have come from. I do need to visit Ireland Dublin and Belfast as my lot where spread out but no real idea which part. I read in George Bests book his mothers maiden name was Withers as is mine so I would love to think we had a relation in common. I got some great letters from my Grand dad when he was in the war, they where so sad and I am so proud of him they went through hell and how any survived I don't know. Good luck to you all and keep going its well worth it.

As hinted at before many of the records from before 1916 were stored in Dublin Post Office - and were destroyed by accident in the Easter Uprising of 1916 - when the Post Office found itself a target and was damaged.

I found out however that there were still remnants of the regional records in both Cork and Belfast - which had some government responsibilities at the time - which was helpful as that was where my rellys came from !

You will have a lot of trouble and may even get nowhere beyond 1916 if your people come from the Dublin region....

GOOD LUCK !

As some of you will know if you have read all the threads in the family tree sagas, I have been doing my tree for seven years now, starting with a chap, my great great grandad who came over from County Down in Northern Ireland in the 1860s:)

Today I recieved a photograph of him which turned out to be an original painting done on his retirement from the Liverpool Police Force in 1889.:)

I was so chuffed this morning when I got it, I had to take my medication.

Not only did I get a photo of him, but one of his son,s, which would be my great Uncle. I am absolutely over the moon at this, which goes to prove that there is hope for all you budding family tree makers and seekers. Keep at it folks.:)

This was from a source not even of my family line but of another strain. So sometimes it,s better to shed your net, so to speak a bit wider and try anyone or everyone who has your family name or has married into your family.

Good luck folks

My 4x great grandmother Amy Tracy was born on the same day as me in Connecticut in 1774. I was born exactly 200 years later on 19th August 1974. Amy's grandaughter Ellen (my 3 x great aunt) also married on the 19 th August in Liverpool in 1886 and I have another 2 family deaths occurring on this date too. I don't really think it's that uncommon especially given the large families they had in those days but there does come one coincidence too many when you start thinking something strange is going on!
