The 20p Weighing Scales

I've always liked these scales and remember seeing them when we were younger. Even then they were pretty rare, but now they seem to be almost non-existent.

I have been trying for a while to find someone who supplies these as I'd love to purchase a set. I've always loved coin-operated equipment. When I called the number on the scales, it was unavailable and I can't seem to find any record of the company.

I'd love to know where there are any of these in use if anybody knows.

I've recently seen a set in St. Johns Market and in Warrington Market.

Why not enquire from the markets who supplies them, the other idea would be reclaimation yards.

I use to remember these in Woolworth's.

WSG (Wilkie Speak Goss) Classic

Well that's one place I remember there was always one of these scales, Woolworths in Liscard.

Last night I was determined to find out where I can get one and in the end managed to find the company's website.

http://www.wsgscales.co.uk

On the site it says that in the 30s, a WSG CLassic could be found in every Woolworths shop, this tradition was probably kept up for a while.

They are all rented to site operators on a profit share basis. So I don't know whether I'd be able to buy one.

Also, as far as I can see, these are all original scales that have been refurbished.

Anyway I'm going to call the firm on Tuesday to see if they can help me find out if I can buy one.

They used to (and still may) have one in Belle Vale Shopping Centre - it was opposite Tesco's if I remember rightly under the stairs - which is now Wilko's.

If it's there, we should ALL get on the scales and find out how much yoliverpool weighs  :)
