The forum was upgraded this morning (Sunday) and seemed to go without a hitch but no-doubt a few bugs may occour. I have already noted that a couple of posts went missing whilst updating the Database.

If u find anything wrong will you post the bugs here:

:unibrow:

I will sort something out when I've got a minute. The reason why its not very descriptive is that a few domains link to here such as:

www.liverpoolexpats.com
www.scouseproud.com
www.lovescouse.com
www.eatscouse.com

They all lead to here.

May I suggest providing a standard 468 x 60 pixel banner with the html e.g. <a href="http://www.yoliverpool.com/"><img src="http://www.yoliverpool.com/path/filename" alt="Liverpool's Number 1 Web Community" width="468" height="60" border="0"></a> so that webmasters may just copy the code and paste it into their site.

Those who wish to use it, simply put this code on your page where u want it (it costs u nothing)

<a href="http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/index.php"><img src="http://www.yoliverpool.com/yobanner.jpg" alt="Liverpool's Number 1" width="303" height="62" border="0"></a>

Or copy this image and link to it yourself:

Howie
05-29-2006, 11:40 PM
Sounds a good idea. There used to be a website, www.merseycards.co.uk (unfortunately no longer in existence) that did exactly what you suggest. I'm not sure what it involves, but I'm sure Kev will look into it.

Cheers Howie.
There are some brilliant pictures that really sell the postive message about Liverpool, we should also educate people to counteract the negative images, I like your little man on the end of one or two of the jokes for example. Just a couple of little nudges and then if it continues to counteract with a bigger nudge.

This is the reason why I like to post pictures of Liverpool because it can buy and sell most cities and this country only seems to live of the negative images about the place, take Wayne Rooney for instance the press are always banging on about his upbringing but how many run down estates in England have a beautiful country park a ten minute walk away from their front door like he did? Probably none and that's the point I'm trying to make.

http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/5102/cptoday0no.jpg

Miles and miles of trees and fields to play in because the truth of the matter is this will have been his playground and I bet you nobody in Mosside,Brixton etc were so lucky.

Brilliant, when sent does it say Yoliverpool ecards as a link and maybe members could contribute but keep their copyright and could possibly give the contributor credit.
I really like the waterfront pictures, maybe others could suggest possible subjects, the main thing should be keep it postive and promote the area, people, culture and all things that make Liverpool great
What a great idea:shock: .

Kev, I have been sending cards all over the place, my fav is something in the water, would love the waterfront one that was took from New Brighton.

A suggestion, when you send, could the messge that the card has been sent be bigger, possibly in middle of the page and it could say your Yoliverpool e card has been sent.
Only I sent my first one and was left with a blank page then realised the ecard has been sent in top corner.
I hope this makes sense.

I do.:D just say for instance you have a picture like this would a quote be added like "Liverpool has 120 kms of Coastline Blah,Blah" like the ones you have there or would you add one yourself?or would it be sent out as it is with a "yo Liverpool" web address on I'm just curious really? The reason why I'm asking is because this picture could be almost anywhere so something has to link it to Liverpool.

Hi Chris,

Kev

I've often thought of this myself and have always came to the decision to keep the forum as it is. I do believe many many guests browse the site, send liks wordwide etc.. which is great and means info about Liverpool's resurgence up the premiership of UK Cities is open to everyone.

Several members may have been with us as a guest for mont5hs and have only just decided to become a member.

I also believe that many stumble upon us with many predudices/ negative images of the city and for them to see the good stuff, even by accident might tempt them back for another look and who knows, maybe attitudes may change.

I havn't worked out the averages out yet but its been 3/4 new members a day signing up at the moment.

Are all the sub-forums really necessary? There seems to be very little happening in a lot of them. Condensing them down into one or two would give the place more of a buzz, with more people seeing more topics without having to jump about all over the place.

"Your Development Ideas For Liverpool", "Your Ideas For Liverpool", "Your Future Liverpool".. discuss what YOU'D like to see built in the city, how you'd like to see the city fabric grow, what projects you'd like to see put in place or any other bright ideas you may have for this New Liverpool.

I think this might be part of a really positive ideas generator for the Liverpool we want to build, the Liverpool we want to live in. Be nice to feed these ideas to those in power who just MIGHT be in a position to listen or act or be inspired...?

Man! There are far too many forums. If you do use the new posts button then you are not using the whole forum anyway. It's very confusing for a new comer to see what is going on, what is current and what is long dead stuff. If you want more users then you should be more user friendly. And what is with all the white?

Edit- I just used the new posts button and there is three post in it. What next?

Either post in them or search each forum. I don't see what the big deal is.

If the forum is busy 'new posts' can have up to 3 pages of freshly posted in threads...

Hello is there anything on old occupations as when you you research what your ancestors did it would be nice to know what for instance their job entailed..

One of mine was a master cooper. He apparently devised some widget that helped the industry immensely, and for which he was awarded an honour. But he wouldn't accept it as it would have been bestowed by Queen Victoria.
Cooperage was a very important trade and skill. As important to the Empire as say horses: most liquids were carried in them. He was an Irish Republican. Grandfather was a stoker. You don't get those anymore either do we?

For Kev
What have you done to the menu bar ?. I see y ou have added
todays posts and taken away new posts. I find todays posts
a not so good feature as it shows all the posts from a few days
back, the new posts is far better as you only see posts from your
last visit, can you put it back please

You only get 'New Posts' when you're logged on.
Thanks for that tip, Mandy, because I didn't know you could get 'Todays Posts' while you were logged on.

Any chance of renaming the Chit-Chat subforums in Talk Liverpool, District News, Urban etc so that there is only one Chit-Chat Forum, i.e. the one in The Lounge.

My reason is that I use the "New Posts" link 99% of the time and I'm usually not interested in Lounge Chit-Chat but want to see the others but there is no way of telling which Chit-Chat a post is in.

Cheers

Mike

Cheers for the suggestion Mike, the idea with the subforums in separate areas was to focus the 'Chit Chat' within its own section, District chit chat separate from environment chit chat etc...

Would it help if I changed the 'Chit Chat' title to something different for each one?

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.

It is only a minor annoyance though as you can often tell from the post title.

what a pity, the Shoutbox has been closed. The Mod called a few reasons, but I miss it, because it was nice to talk there.

Hi Atany I agree with you I will miss the shoutbox as it gave me a chance to catch up with everybodys day and life. I only hope there will be something on the new forum engine that will allow some sort of chat to take place. Fingers crossed.:tear:

Just a thought.

vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 4 has now been released. Still no word when the final version is to be released although it is good that it is being tested for bugs etc.

Look, there is a chatroom - "Live Chat" on the top, right. http://www.thescienceforum.com/
No registration necessary. Only to install the Java-application if you don't have that already.
But we have to fix appointments if we want to talk there or we won't meet us. So maybe always at the top of the hour.

I think it's kinda stupid to close a chat because there are a few idiots maybe. I mean, then have the idiots won, because nobody can talk any more. And I have no problem to discount unfriendly messages or to find a fitting answer.

Just to add my two pennyworth, I always thought there was already a spellchecker on board, just click on a dodgy word and a red dotted rule appears under it if it's incorrect! Whilst it won't correct it, you can always go to http://dictionary.com to check it out.

Cheers. :)

I can't find a thread that I started. Is there a reason for this? This is a site where I don't really start threads so it can't be my memory playing up:confused:
