The crane fell toppled over on Wavertree Boulevard and trapped the man under the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Merseyside Police are examining the site by the Wavertree Technology Park, and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating.
The man, who died on Thursday, is the third to be killed by a crane in Merseyside since the start of the year.

I have a feeling it was a mobile crane rather than a tower crane, but even so it's pretty grim. The BBC says that's the third person killed by a falling crane in Merseyside since the start of the year - I thought this was the second?
