A race track tunnel system under dingle...... theninesisters 03-29-2007, 02:29 PM Anyone else heard this story? A race track tunnel system under dingle...... There is the Dingle station with loads of cars there :) The only time I turned the Dingle in to a race track was when I had access to the Herculanium Dock before buiding work started - and used to practice my 0-60 times there hoping that my brakes would work before I hit the dingle steps! Gnomie 03-29-2007, 02:35 PM Was`nt Dingle station the only underground station on the overhead railway? Do you mean they held races there Kev? I have a book about Horse racing meetings in Toxteth, but they would not be underground. Kev 03-29-2007, 02:36 PM I'm talking about a separate 'track' where cars would 'race'. theninesisters 03-29-2007, 03:13 PM What's your source Kev? Any more info on this? There are old cars down there. verdi 03-29-2007, 07:29 PM I don't know about tunnels, but there was some sort of go cart track at the bottom of Dingle lane when I was a kid. It was a track on a field at JONES'S farm! This might be Brown's field, which was part of West Dingle, which was on Dingle Lane. The once grand house was then a pig farm. (I've traced the history of all the big houses, and there wasn't a Jones's farm. West Dingle was the only house that was any kind of farm in the 20th century.) West Dingle was the last of the large houses on the Dingle estate to be demolished, and this happened between 1955 and 1960. On an OS map dated January 1960, the house had already been demolished, with a Road Safety Course laid out on the site. I think the course was to teach child cyclists Road Safety. I suppose it could have been used as an unofficial "race track".
