The angry cat - He used to look down the hatch and say,

"Is Me owl man down there?"

The diesel fitter - Always picking things up and saying ,

"These will fit her."

Rembrandt - "Hang on a mo an' I'll put you in the picture."

The baldy Cat - Every time he got on the bus, he had no fare (fur).

Tarmac - "A pint please and one for the road."

Nicknames were often passed down too, one docker "scabbed " a strike in the 40's and was dubbed Scabby thereafter,when his son became a docker he was immediately called Young Scabby.

The Good Shepherd, he was caught by old `One A Day`the policeman on the gate at the Gladstone. who always got one a day.
`Whats under yer coat,` and the docker said "I am just keeping this lamb warm" A frozen lamb off the meat boats.

Then there was the Priest always shouting down the Hatch , "Hey men"
