2. Respect everyone, regardless of anything, unless they do something lose that respect then they must earn it back.

3. Never judge others for who they are, even if they are not like you, they are still a person, there must be other reasons before you can judge them in any way.

4. Conduct yourself well at all times, don't argue or fight unless in self defence. Always try to talk your way out first. The pen is mightier than the sword, and words can have real power.

5. Help each other, even if others wont accept you we accept each other, welcome new people like family and care for them. This support system is our backbone, never fail it.

6. Rock out as much as possible :D but try and lead a clean life while doing so.

Thats what alot of my friends call the unspoken rules, everyone in alternative culture is just expected to know and if they dont then they are told. We are a culture though, and a family and a community unto our own. Half the 'goths' i know i call brother or sister, or son or daughter (depends on their age). We all do look after each other too and it is share and share alike. I like that you say MM was the most coherant. We do say sensible things as the majority of 'goths' and 'punks' etc are incredibly inteligent people, i know of alot of people who are shunned by general society cus they are a 'goth or 'punk' and can't get a job but they have Phds.

I know to groups like HIM, Cradle of Filth, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse... even there are several groups in the Spanish State. For example, Heroes del Silencio, his singer Bunbury, shares a business with considered Gothic groups, since they are Niños del Brasil and Las Novias.

Concretly, on that I can base to know if a group is Gothic? Excuses my ignorance, but I have been very rebellious, to the effect that I have never liked the etiquettes.

In terms of gothic bands, the fact they dress as a goth doesn't mean they are a gothic metal band (it does help to identify them a little though), what they sing about is more important, and how they sing about it (they tend towards the more melodic scale of metal - for example alot of gothic bands perform symphonic metal which is a metal band with an opera singer and an orchestra). Cradle of filth is more of a heavy metal band than a gothic metal band, they have gothic metal song which is Nymphetamine Fix.

There are some very good gothic metal bands, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Nightwish, 69 Eyes, Otep, Unloco System Of A Down, Nine Inch Nails, Kidney Thieves, Anathema, Abigails Mercy, Placebo etc.
