View Full Version : Robotic birds scare 'fat' pigeons
snappel 03-21-2007, 03:20 PM Pigeons are not part of Liverpool's plans for its year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
The city council is mounting a campaign to rid the city of the birds, which it says are being fattened up by the public feeding them leftovers.
Ten robotic birds of prey are being brought into the city centre to scare off the pigeons and visitors are being warned not to give them food.

This bit makes me laugh...
Councillor Turner said it is making them "overweight and gives them a scruffy, unhealthy appearance"
Sorry, who's that? The birds or the people?
ChrisGeorge 03-21-2007, 03:34 PM Thanks, snappel. For myself, I wouldn't mind having one of the sausage rolls folks are chucking to the pigeons. ;)
Chris
Leave them alone, they've been part of Liverpool City Center forever! They've as much right to be there as us.
billo 03-21-2007, 03:49 PM Maybe they think we should have Designer Pigeons for 2007/8 :)
lindylou 03-21-2007, 03:49 PM Yeah, leave them alone. They have a right to a life as anyone.
Rats with wings. Vermin that s hit our lovely public buildings up so we've had to put ugly nets on the carvings.
Why is there always a little wormy form in the middle of the white splodge anyway (I noticed this at close quarters when one pooed on my arm once)

But Pigeon crap is very corrosive and it ruins the buildings, there's food they can feed them that makes them infertile, that's the best way to deal with the problem I reckon.
lindylou 03-21-2007, 05:34 PM It is an eyesore having to have those nets on the buildings. I do agree that the nets spoil the look of things.
The pigeon droppings are unsightly when there are flocks of them congregating.
I do feel sorry for them though being chased away - they are just birds.
I wish as much emphasis was put onto spitting and 'chewie louts' - just as unsightly and just as disgusting and unhygenic.
At least it can be said that the birds don't know any better and just do what comes natural!

Of course it is. What concerns me most is the councils determination to get a way with anything undesirable before 2008, we are what we are and we've done fine up to now.
theninesisters 03-21-2007, 07:32 PM What a total waste of money! If the council want to employ me for £2000, I'll run around and scare em off!!!! Every church tower has pigeons flying in and out - they're part of our city!
Shapers 03-21-2007, 08:23 PM What a council? Can't have Pigeons on buildings as its unsilghtly, but more than happy to leave empty council homes go empty to and beyond repair, and leave ones with people living in filthy conditions.
Oh yes, such priorities.
Rather have 'winged vermin' were i live than the asbo vermin.
Why have either. It's not an either or is it?
ps. I've never forgiven that pigeon.
Shapers 03-21-2007, 08:43 PM Lesser of the 2 evils.
At least Pigeons don't rob your dvd, batter a pensioner, rob cars, etc.
That's what I mean - get rid of them both.
SteveFaragher 03-21-2007, 08:49 PM I have jsut written a long message and my computer decided to loose it so rather than write it all again most of what I wanted to say is in my blog
Needless this gem of a story is one of a long line of pigeon crap/liverpool city council story, and these wonderful birds are only £2000+ each

Nah, just the ASBO vermin.
Is Pigeon Poo Acidic enough to set on Scallies and Students? I hope so.
If I was a bird, I'd love crapping on people while flying.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I thought the robot hawk was In Clayton Square, now I hear It's church street. I never saw It while In town.:Smiliz_Kingz_PDT_13
Steven 03-21-2007, 11:24 PM If I had the wings of an Angel

I'd fly right over our city,,,
And S**t on those smackeds below.

I never said I could spell !
