SteveFaragher 03-21-2007, 08:59 PM As a Garston lad I used to go regularly plane spotting at the old Liverpool Airport, in the 1960's
This usually consisted of me and a few mates sitting for hours on end, bottle of water, brown sauce butty, paying 3d to the old ticker collector, to go on the spectators balcony, waiting for a plane............it was a bit like the beginning of "Fantasy Island" when a plane did land we would get very excited, just like tattooo.....
Very occasionally a British Eagle Vickers Viscount would take off to the IOM, the incredibly loud whistling sound of the engines probably contributed to my mid life hearring loss. What?? what? eh??
We would spent a tanner on the telescope and all have a go before the money ran out, one day it didnt run and stayed on.....when there werent any palnes to watch the next best thing was watching the large number of hares boxing on the runway......
I remember you Steve. Hadn't you turned the telescope pointing inland towards the bedroom windows on Banks Road

BY LYNNE HUTCHINSON
09 April 2007
One of the Bristol-designed Britannia aircraft has departed from the West. The 50-year-old plane, called Charlie Fox, used to be in service with British Eagle International Airlines and, when it is put back together again, it will be painted in its former livery.
All the parts, except the main undercarriage wheels, have been transported to Liverpool Airport, where a team of volunteers will start the process of putting it back together.
Eventually it will go on display on the apron outside the old terminal building at Speke.

marie 05-20-2007, 03:26 PM Where is it? Is it in the same place that John Lennon Airport?
Just next door to the airport as it is now...
Map (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=53.3407&lon=-2.8726&scale=25000)
It was between Speke Hall and Garston. All the old buildings are still there, but all been done up as hotels & restaurants.
Where is it? Is it in the same place that John Lennon Airport?
The old terminal is now the Liverpool South Marriot Hotel.

I agree, thanx for the info too. My fauvorite plane is Le Spitfire, maybe, do u not know it. I like to read about the I and II World War, and Le Spitfire, was a important piece. Do u know if its possible see one in Pool? I was seeing that its possible to see and go into a submarine near the city, in a Tv Programme. Maybe are some Spitfire in Merseyside too.
On a the next sunny day, I'm going to take pics of the old Airport to start a Speke set.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Only got Speke and a Halewood set to start and then I'll just build up my south Liverpool sets.
