View Full Version : Question About Places to Live in Liverpool
marie 03-09-2007, 05:15 AM Since urs could read other times, I move to living to Liverpool soon. I received somes emails about flats, but I do not know well the city. I like to ask for help, on information about some directions.
- Birkdale Village
- Aigburth area L17
- Sefton Park
I hope that the people help me with information about future places also. I have many doubts. About buses to go to the center of the city, about if it is a dangerous zone...
Thanks to all!!! :PDT_Piratz_26: :PDT_Piratz_26:

The Sefton Park area is lovely. Find yourself a nice flat overlooking the park and you're set for life!!

...if you don't mind being woken up every day at 5am from April to September by the magpies.
billo 03-09-2007, 10:18 AM Sefton Park is pretty much Aigburth area, and the Rose Lane end is getting trendy with cafes and designer restaurants, this road leads onto Allerton road which is also busy and has buses to the city centre (they pass the famous Penny Lane) via smithdown Road which is a big student living area. Aigburth extends south to Liverpool 19. Generally it is a nice area. The main Aigburth Road has buses to the city centre, you may also check out the local (underground) train service which has stations at Cressington, Aigbuth and St. Michaels, even though it is south of the city this line is called The Northen Line and is coloured blue on the rail plan.
Birkdale is 30-40 min. north of the city and is quite genteel(and therefore more expensive), the best way into the city is again by The Northern line trains as the roads are very busy during rush hour.
Jericho 03-09-2007, 10:32 AM The Sefton Park area of L17 is very beautiful. Aigburth Drive contains large detached houses all of which have been converted into flats or hotels. You can get a dingy one bedroom flat at the back of one of these houses (sorry no view of the park) for as little as Ģ120k. There are still a handful of rented flats available, especially in the roads off Aigburth Drive (Livingstone Drive North and South). There is a definite lifestyle around the park - joggers, t'ai chi, meditation, dog-walkers, parents and children, goths, winos, couples (all sexualities). The downside is the traffic during the rush hour (it's used as a rat run) and the pot holes in the road. The main shops are on Lane Lane - good if you want to eat out every night and drink to your heart's content but not much else. Just south of the Lane there is Aigburth Road which has a Tesco and a wider range of shops. If you're used to things like fishmongers, forget it. Once a month at the bottom of the lane there is a farmer's market which displays high quality fresh produce from throughout the wider region. You can walk into central Liverpool from Sefton Park in about 30 minutes. There are frequent buses every few minutes into town from Aigburth Road. The nearest merseyrail station is St Michaels, (south of Lark Lane and signposted). Trains run every 15 minutes throughout the day and as well as calling at the city centre go on to Southport, calling at Birkdale (which is a suburb of Southport).
Aigburth starts just south of the park and is characterised by a mixture of more substantial Edwardian terraced properties (many have 4 bedrooms) pre and post war semi-detached houses and terraces (on the west side of Aigburth Road past St Margaret's school). There is also a range of detached newer and older properites containing anything between 4 - 8 bedrooms. There are a few halls of residence located off Barkhill Road. There are two main shopping areas, Aigburth Vale and the top of Mersey Road, no supermarkets. Just west of the Vale is Otterspool Park, one of Liverpool's lost parks - mostly deserted. You can walk through it to Otterspool promenade which has good views of the Mersey. The main railway station is Aigburth situated in Mersey Road. It's on the same railway line as St Michaels.
Both areas are part of L17. The area south of Aigburth Vale is more bohemian and cheaper (and more expensive) to buy and rent. In terms of personal safety L17 is a safe enough area. The schools are good. Lots of creche facilities. The Lark Lane (it joins Sefton Park to Aigburth Road) area has a high density of people who claim to be writers, artisits, musicians, photographers, etc. The area south of the Vale (Aigburth) is safer than the area north of it.
theninesisters 03-09-2007, 11:22 AM You know I'm gonna get told off for Kev by hi-jacking this...... :PDT_Xtremez_42:
Aigburth Road, past St Mags and I can just about remember it's before the main set of traffic lights where the HSBC is (or was) - there is a detatched house that has a very american style front to it. I think it's a bungalow - does anyone know which one I mean and has a picture or any info?

I'll try and get a photo, it may be undergoing extension work right now, it was owned by an elderly lady (Artist? or Arty?).This one is near sudley Primary school.
or is that 'Green Ridges''?(named after the green roof tiles) on the left out of town, just past the bus stop?.It has a great 1030's curved front door. It was designed by the first owner who was an architect. It was sold a few (maybe 5)years ago as the guy had lost his sight with old age.Not a bungalow though
marie 03-09-2007, 01:03 PM VERY VERY VERY THANKS ALL PEOPLE FOR THE INFO !!!!!
The share-flats that I can find at the moment are about 50Ģ per week with bills.
My major worry was to know if they are dangerous zones. Thanks for the information, again!!!!!
I do not know the public transport in the city. I do not know if they work 24 hours. Possibly, I work by night, and I need to move in autobus from the center of the city.
I try find a flat in the city center, but itīs too difficult coz... I do not like sharing with students (coz i do not like parties all night) or the flats are very expensive.
Thanks again Jericho, Jona, Billo and Antiphatos!!! :PDT_Piratz_26:

You will struggle to find anywhere in this area for Ģ50 all in. Why not see if you can post a request on this website:
http://www.larklane.com/
you might be lucky. There are all night buses from the city centre to the airport but they don't go through L17. There are all night buses that do go through this area on Fridays and Saturdays but these can be a bit dodgy. A taxi fare from town to Lark Lane is about Ģ6 and Ģ8 to the Vale. Buses run late (past midnight) and start early (after 5am). The trains are similar.
I find RightMove.co.uk a good site to find somewhere to rent. This link (http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-let-in--liverpool--merseyside.rsp) will take you to all properties for rent in Liverpool, then you can narrow down the price and location.
Libertarian 03-09-2007, 08:15 PM move to Kirkdale the Chelsea of the north!
steveb 03-09-2007, 08:51 PM Sefton Park is a nice area, plenty of decent flats, if possible one
over looking the park. Aigburth is just down the road from Sefton Park
more built up area, Birkdale is out of Liverpool on the way to Southport
nice, but can be expensive...

Yes, I see, Sefton park itīs very beauty!! I was a bit confuse coz, when i was to Liverpool in my last travel, in January, I was walking from Albert Dock to Menlove Ave. (to see Lennonīs and Paulīs homes, Pennylane, ...), and I could see too much house left and without living about Sefton Park Area. I cannot remember, but I think that was when I was walking about Ullet Rd., but Iīm not sure.... Only I remember a school near, and a very tall building of flats (empty too). Thanks Steveb!!!
marie 03-12-2007, 02:14 PM Help again... what about Aigburth area L17 9AQ ??
Thanks!!!
Jericho 03-12-2007, 02:31 PM Your postcode isn't accurate. You need to check the last two letters!

It is the code that they facilitated to me on the flat. They do not want to give me any more details of the situation (name of the street).
Jericho 03-12-2007, 03:53 PM Using streetmap the first part of your code suggests that it's somewhere between Lambton Road and Jericho Lane - a distance of approximately 2km. My description of L17 north of Aigburth Vale applies to this area. If it's a flat, there is a strong possibility that it's over a shop in Aigburth Road. This could be very noisy and if it's near a takeway, very smelly! If you have struck the jackpot and got yourself a flat in Normanton Road or Livingstone Drive, snap it up. The other main set of flats are the former army barracks accomodation near St Charles's church.
Overall, the entire area is safe and student/alternative lifestyle/ family friendly. There are lots of people living in the area from overseas and people speaking Spanish, French, Polish etc. are not uncommon. If I were moving to Liverpool from another country/elsewhere I wouldn't be too disappointed to end up in this part of town.
marie 03-12-2007, 06:06 PM Thanks u very much for the info. I try it, that the boy says to me the exactly streetīs name.

marie 03-13-2007, 05:51 PM Julius Caesar? I do not know the joke. But thanks Steven. I am sure that I post news dudes about others places. Thanks again!! :PDT_Piratz_26:
