I knew Alessandro (alex - pictured) was the owner of the Capaldi cafe and milk bar on smithdown, but i was unaware of a G. Capaldi? I would like to find out the connection and Christian name of the G. Capaldi. I don't suppose you know a way for me to find out please?

Capo,

there was a Giuseppe Capaldi who was born in Liverpool in 1926 according to Ancestry.
The only other 'G' was a Gerard A Capaldi born in Liverpool in 1945, again according to Ancestry.
About the Park Road one, I have to be honest and say I couldn't swear that it was owned by a Capaldi, but I'm pretty sure it was.

Dave.

Have you spoken to any of the existing ones face to face yet Capo. That's always your best bet, especially with the older folk and all their memories before they die off.

Yeh, spoke to my Gramps, (alex's nephew), but he only knows of a uncle alec up north somewhere?
The only record i can get to show me anything would be his death certificate, but that wouldn't tell me anything!
I have matched nearly all the Capaldi's born between 1920-1935 with a Antonio Capaldi who married a Di Marco and owned the milk bar on Wavertrtee and the Cafe on Kensington.

My alex, i know owned the Milk Bar and Cafe on Smithdown Rd, and around 1965 a G. Capaldi took over and alex died in Liverpool, 1967.

That is all i know!

I would somehow like to know how to find out information to see if he married, maybe abroad?? I don't know?

Jamie

Have you tried this site for marriages?....

http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

There are thirteen Capaldi marriages in the Lancashire area from 1901 to 1978, could be useful. :-)

http://www.192.com has a lot of Capaldis in the Liverpool area... might be worth a phone around.

Thank you all for your help.
I have found out Alessandro married Fiorinda Colacicco in Edinburgh 1918.
Their Children were:
Levira B Capaldi 1925 – Doris Capaldi 1927 – Ernesto Capaldi 1929 – Alessandro Capaldi 1931 – Alberto Capaldi 1934 – Benito Capaldi 1939
All were born in Liverpool, except Levira was in Bath.

I would like to see any picture/photos of the Milk Bar or Cafe on Smithdown rd, if anybody has any please?

Thanks Jamie

Are you aware of the song 'Capaldi's Cafe' by the brilliant Liverpool band Deaf School?
The song was written by band member Eric Shark who sadly died earlier this year.
A tribute message board was opened on the bands website (google deafshoolmusic) for fans to pay their respects to Eric and a post was made by the Capaldi Family thanking Eric for the song.
The song is about the Kensington cafe and is a classic.
