Faro is a lovely old town with lots of history and old buildings.
The patterned cobblestones are very nice and typical in Algarve.
Faro cathedral is small but pituresque.
Faro airport nearby and low flying planes cross the marina.

Old buildings in Faro, some dating back to early 1800's.

I can't translate this, but I guess it's a poem about the Algarve by a famous poet :)
I'll do some Googling when I get a moment :)

Lots of benches with Portuguese pensioners watching the world go by. :)

Ah, yes. A poet and meteorologist; sunny and windy it seems. ;)
A good time had by all, I trust. :)

Fine photographs, Lindy. Bravo.
I found this about the poet's house which is shown here (http://traveldk.com/algarve/dk/highlight/parque-natural-da-ria-formosa).
"10. Joćo Lucio’s House
Joćo Lucio, 19th-century poet, lawyer and former mayor of Olhćo, owned much of the land on which Quinta de Marim is now situated. His former villa, near the river’s edge, is now an environmental study centre."

Actually, Faro cathedral is small but pituresque. These are stunning photos. Well done.

Hi Lindy, fine pictures, especially of the old buildings. When I was in Portugal in 1960 ,the mosaics on the pavement were laid by prisoners. It seemed bizarre then to see men clothed in rough prison uniforms, manacles on their ankles, singing some sad songs(fados) as they sat with legs splayed out, creating things of beauty.

Also in Faro, Carmo igreja, The chapel of bones - http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/rubinda/Portugal/09.jpg
strangely, I can find very little about it on the internet. It doesn't seem to be listed in Wiki. http://atlasobscura.com/place/capela-de-ossos-bone-chapel

You are right about the internet searches, all far too skewed to tourism, but this guy pops up also...
