TWO of Liverpool's most senior councillors last night explained why they want a new system introduced to allow grievances to be laid against its most senior officers.

Cllrs Richard Marbrow and Paul Clein, both members of the council's executive board, want a six-member panel to be established to enable grievance or disciplinary matters to be heard against chief executive Sir David Henshaw, resources director Phil Halsall and city solicitor Graeme Creer should the need ever arise.

I think most of us have realised for some time that there is something seriously amiss in the way that this Council has been conducting itself.

Media troubleshooter to ride shotgun for council

AN INDEPENDENT media troubleshooter has been drafted in to advise top executives and councillors on how to manage Liverpool's image.

It comes six months after the authority's salaried head of media, Matt Finnegan, was suspended on full pay from his £65,000-a-year role. Consultant Alison Hastings was recruited directly by chief executive David Henshaw's office two weeks ago, it emerged last night.
