In the Jewish and Muslim tradition,a boy must be circumcised before he reaches adolescence,this has a lot to do with environment than religion, the desert peoples learned of the benefits to hygiene by removing the foreskin. In Judaism the circumcision is performed as near to the birth as possible,in Islam the time varies between the various schisms. My grandson Sam was circumcised when he was about seven.
In Turkey the age seems to be around the age of between 8 and 12, the little boys shown here are on their way to the mosque for their ceremony of circumcision,it is an occasion that is done with great pomp as the boy is making the transition from childhood to manhood.
On the day I took these snaps ,we saw many more boys on their way to the "snip". They looked like Princes and conducted themselves with great decorum,
