Cool pic Max. It looks so eerie
Is this the Monk's Well you can see here (http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1180&d=1169923867)?
I wish Wavertree still had more village looking buildings like In that painting.
Woolton and Hale still have alot of their village looks and Hale has an award to prove It.:PDT10

Great pics, Max! And yes, it does look like the Monk's Well, doesn't it Kev? I had thought with all those windmills that was a shot of the Lime Street area but maybe it is Wavertree, and that is the old post mill at Wavertree that we discussed in the Windmills thread.

Holmefield Road, Aigburth.
The former Grange Hotel has been converted into apartments, and is now called Ivyhurst Manor.
Ivyhurst being its original name when it was built in the 1840s.
Holmefield Lodge opposite is probably the oldest house in Aigburth, being built some time in the 18th century.

Hi Philip
Similar to the story of the Washington Monument here in Baltimore. It was originally slated to go in Monument Square by the courthouse but people who had houses in the same square were afraid that it might fall on their houses, so instead the Washington Monument was moved to a rise north of town in what was then Howard's Woods, providing actually a better location (top picture), and the shorter Battle Monument (pictured bottom) was erected in Monument Square instead. Actually if you look closely at the old photograph of the Battle Monument you can see the top of the Washington Monument tiny in the distance to the right of the shaft, the Roman fasces, that makes up the column of the main monument in the shot.

There is a whole book about London by Jane Peyton called Looking Up in London: London As You Have Never Seen It Before and one time I had a great time walking round the sites seeing things high up that people walking along the street probably wouldn't notice. Someone should write a similar book about Liverpool!

Somebody has!
It's by Andrew Richardson and is called "Well, I never noticed that!"
I think it had a limited run, and was rather expensive.
A word of warning.
It was produced more like a university thesis than a commercial book.

There are two books. 'Well, I never noticed that part one - The statues and monuments of Liverpool and Bootle'. Also 'Well, I never noticed that part two - The decoration of the buildings of Liverpool and Bootle'. I am of the opinion that these two books are a must even if they, together, are on the dear side.

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i36/taxipix/LewisssclosureECHO0703072.jpg
Most Merseysiders will know that earlier this month the future of Lewis's, one of Liverpool's best-loved stores, was beginning to look uncertain as Owen Owen went into administration.
The reality of the situation was clear to all as 'STORE CLOSING' signs went up on Wednesday March 7th.
I was extremely saddened to see this and I'm sure the vast majority of local people are feeling much the same way. It's a very sad thought, as Liverpool looks to the future more than ever before, that Lewis's may not be a part of it.
Optimistically though, I do believe that a buyer will be found and that Lewis's will continue to trade under its famous and trusted name. I certainly hope so.
What is Liverpool without its Liver Birds? What is Liverpool without Lewis's?

London Road. Looking down London Road from Monument Place I think. I believe the equestrian figure is that of William Huskisson. Am I right?
Excellent picture by the way. Thanks for posting it.

The statue is of King George 3rd. It had been planned for Gt George Sq.
