View Full Version : Menlove Avenue RED GLASS BOX
Aunt Sally 02-26-2007, 11:02 AM hello all I'm new to the forum and was told by a friend to look here for any information on the "sculpture, monument thingy magigy" on Menlove Ave by the golf course. It's a glass square shaped box that glows red of a night.I pass this every night and it mistifies me!!!Also does any one remember a place on the same avenue which was known as (not sure if it was) the naughty boys home. P.S. This is a great forum thanx for telling me Mrs Taylors son-in-law:PDT11

victorialush 02-26-2007, 12:53 PM Outhouse, Woolton
Location: Woolton, Liverpool
Client: Liverpool Housing Action Trust / The Guinness Trust
The outhouse designed by Vong Phaophanit is the result of the Liverpool Housing Action Trust’s commitment to public art in Liverpool.
Owen Ellis worked with the artist to evolve and turn the idea into reality. The project is an interpretation of houses designed by Owen Ellis Partnership on an adjacent site, and consists of a glass box located in woodland. At night the sculpture is lit from under the glass floor using red neon. The project was used as an opportunity to include other artists and the community

ChrisGeorge 02-26-2007, 02:47 PM Hi All
Over here in the US of A, your former British colonies, an "Outhouse" is a loo, an outside toilet; maybe it is where you are as well. Maybe this should be in the Public Conveniences thread?
Will look forward to seeing a photo besides the one on the Ellis website.

marky 02-26-2007, 03:27 PM Hardly art in my opinion. It didn't impress me. Maybe it looks a 100 times better when lit up. I seem to remember a figure of £50,000 mentioned somewhere?
theninesisters 02-26-2007, 03:28 PM And some more....

Dear Aunt Sally,
This is a piece of modern art sponsored by the Guinness Trust who have been involved in renovating the ex council flats on Menlove Avenue. I have to say I'm truly astonished it has survived !!
Best wishes

Considering that the panes of glass were deliberately broken in the greenhouse in adjoining Harthill where the Calder Stones were displayed, leading to them being removed for safe keeping, you are exactly correct, Taffy. :(
