How can I resize an image to the exact pixel without losing the original image view? I have seen where we can use the crop tool and assign a width and height, but this crops out the picture that is not set within my assigned dimensions.

There should be an "image size" option on the image menu. I'm using a later version but I'm sure that's been around for ages

If you are using Microsoft products, their "Prish Photo Resizer" is free and does a good job of quickly reducing picture sizes for posting.

You don't even have to open the picture, just right click it and use the menu selection...

This should work for all versions of Photoshop.
Open up you image that is to be resized.
Click on IMAGE in the menu bar,
scroll down to IMAGE SIZE.
Enter your new sizes in the boxes (percentage or Pixels).
Before you save: Put a tick in the Constrain proportions box and save as 72 dpi BICUBIC.
I hope this helps.
