I was brought up in a Red family, my uncle was the Blue, I have always been a Blue (in football terms) and would n't be anything else.
My uncle actively encouraged my support for the Blues by taking me to the match.

I help run the Liverpool supporters club here in Toronto and it always interests me when I speak to someone and they tell me how they became a Liverpool supporter.

For me it was no choice, I was born a red and I will die a red, I'm sure the same thing goes for most Scousers whether they are red or blue.

I have a friend who is Everton fan..I asked him how he become a Everton fan?Is it because of his parent,Are they Everton fan?
He replied "No ,everyone in my family are Red,I am the only one who must be enjoying pain and torture"
When I see him miserable I never ask reason because I do know that only Everton Fc can upset him that much ,loosing another game...

I do go to games whenever I can, mostly Tranmere Rovers games, then Liverpool games, sometimes Everton games..

I love Anfield Ground and staff, they are most helpfull and easy going staff I ever seen...I do travel a lot for football and watched plenty football games in different countries..

Once I took my camcorder with me and recorded CL game at Anfield , no one said anything...Nobody questined either at gate or inside...Once I took whole of my camera bag with me,spare lens, batteries etc ..Look a like this http://www.mavilacivert.com/images/18macaristan.jpg

Most of other grounds I am always having problems...Even in Prenton Park, staff are always questioning me,warning me not to record more than 3 minutes etc...

Newcastle Ground staff was worse...They watched me whole of a game so make sure I won't use my long lens..

If you ask me who I like most answer would be Liverpool fc...I went a few games at Goodison never liked the way Everton plays football. They are a bit better now:)

Pass me the cliché sick bucket please. LOL!

Don't know anyone in my immediate family who are bluenoses. My Grandad and Dad were rednoses and went to all the home and most away games. I think someone up above just decides on a whim whether you're a Red or a Blue, the moment you're born.

What's amazed me living down South is the amount of Black and Asian lads who support Liverpool Football Club. Also the kids. One of my lads' Under 11 teams had 7 LFC supporters. This was years before the Euro win.

There is something special about Liverpool FC. Don't know what it is that draws people to support them.

Wouldn't be the glory hunters would it :unibrow:

Always easier to support a team that's always in the mix when the trophies are handed out, it's why there's loads of Norwegians and Cornish who have nothing else (remember the foggy night game called off because JL airport was closed and the fans couldn't get to Anfield ha ha)

Only kidding folks but a bit of truth in it for those that are easily swayed - look at the prawn sandwich brigade at Old Trafford.

Everything's relative Ged. If I was an Evertonian, I'd consider a Blackburn Rovers supporter a glory hunter.

But why would a bunch of kids choose Liverpool over Chelsea, the Mancs or even Arsenal if it was only "glory" they were after ?

What Dave says is true, there is something special about Liverpool, something that sets us apart.........and it's not just being the most successful British team ever.

We have the biggest Liverpool supporters club in North America here in Toronto. A lot of our membership are ex-pat Scousers but it always amazes me how many locals support Liverpool, make trips over to see them play etc.

They could have chose the mancs or more recently Chelsea if it was _only_ about glory.

They all have their reasons, one told me that he only started supporting Liverpool a couple of seasons ago and it was after a thumping at home by Chelsea, he said it was the way the Kop stood and sang YNWA when we were down 1-4.

He said that you wouldn't see that at ANY other club..........and I'm inclined to agree.

It was only tongue in your cheeks Scousemouse but what I was referring to had more to do with the mid 1970s when I started supporting Everton who had nothing going for them back then (we even had Frankenstein as our manager - Gordon Lee) and it was more fashionable for youngsters to follow Liverpool who were winning the league all the time with that great team of theirs - why I even used to stand on the walkovers above Scottie with my mates watching them come down on the open top bus (the 1974 tour had John Conteh on it too with the Lonsdale belt) but that Emlyn Hughes jibe outside the Picton library when we all rushed round to get a speck and got crushed left a sour taste in many mouths. Still, whenever i'm bigging up Liverpool, the city, I couldn't possibly leave LFC out.

what sets you apart is not being worthy of Everton:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

And visa versa Ged, I've been away too long to get caught up in the bitterness that exists today. Having two teams in the Prem means a lot to the City...............even if one of 'em is a small club :unibrow:

To be fair, not a small club, just a smaller club, eh? :unibrow:

My Grandad was a big Reds fan going back to the early years of the twentieth century: he could remember Elisha Scott in goal and other early players. So it was natural that the Reds would be my team.

This thread is cool.

My better half is a red as is my son. so derby day is fun in our house.

most of our family is mixed. its good humour.

The 1980`s was great with the fans singing Merseyside at the cup finals, sadly i think them days are gone.

Chris. Did you know that the banter between our Dixie and Elisha Scott was so, that Dixie would send him headache tablets in the post pre derby games telling him he'd need them - and he nearly always did - Dixie got a hat trick against him once and a few more too.

I'm a red, but a mate of mine in work has created a great site that covers the full history of EFC;

Steve always welcomes any comments on his website.

Hi Ged

Aye I heard all that. I remember too the sad day when Dixie had to have his leg amputated. I still have the newscutting from the Echo. My Grandad commented that after his career as a footballer ended, Dixie became a publican and drank the profits. I don't know about the truthfulness of that assertion, but that's what my Grandad thought.

Then there was the story about them passing each other on London Rd, Dixie nodded to Eliaha and Eliaha dove through a shop window.

It must be true because I read it in a book.
