In the news today is a plan for a massive container port on the Manchester Ship Canal at Salford.

If the Port of Liverpool is not given urgent permission to expand probably by outdated working practises and nosy neighbours the city's prosperity will once again be by passed.

sorry no I saw it on northwest tonight.

I just think what does Liverpool have that Manchester doesn't? Obviously a coast! Therefore a port. Then they go and build a ship canal and can undercut us if we are not careful.

I suppose with them being forced to do a report from the Kings Dock Arena they just had to get a 'Manchester gets one over Liverpool' story in somehow.

The bias on Granada and Northwest tonight is unbelievable.

All of the presenters on both channels are from or live in Manchester.

The sports coverage is Manchester biased.

Not to mention all of the BBC jobs going to Manchester

We only get tokenist mentions because they feel they have to.
I don't like regional TV I think that a major city our size should have its own news programme. Personally I feel nothing in common with the rest of the Northwest. We have more in common with North Wales.

In the news today is a plan for a massive container port on the Manchester Ship Canal at Salford.Massive? The size of vessels that can and do transit the Manchester Ship Canal are miniscule compared to the present generation of post-Panamax ships. Even the Panama Canal will need to enlarge by building parallel locks alongside the present ones if they wish to accommodate these behemoths of the oceans. In fact a feasibilty study commissioned by the Panamanian Government concerning this very proposal is presently underway. Salford may become a land terminal for containers but most, if not all, of those containers would arrive via road. I don't think the Port of Liverpool is in any danger by competion from Manchester/Salford ports.

By the way, here's the link that I think the story was taken from, 3 year old news really but better, if you are the BBC Manchester, than reporting anything good about Liverpool.
