The second series starts soon, i know its a bit manc, but am i the only one of us who watches this? a wonderful glimpse into the 70s cars, clothes, and technology, and of couse social attitudes, not bad for a bbc production. Retro heaven, any body else enjoy the first series?

Confuses me how Heartbeat has been going on for 15 years but they are still in the 60s.

Marc Warren stars in Tuesdays episode. I hope this isnt going to be another example of a Scouse baddie in a Manc TV show.

I see "North West Tonight" have been plugging this for the last few days.
I wonder why they don't mention "Lilies"?

arh Phil u and me must have been thinking the same. I listened to the introduction on the report and its ridiculously OTT description of the modern day Manchester blah blah blah.... :PDT_Xtremez_12:

Lets see them talk with such passion about Lpool eh?

So if modern day Manchester is so fantastic and redeveloped how come they didnt explain why the BBC were still able to find enough locations to re-create the 70s for 8 whole episodes. :celb (23):

If you had seen the Radio Times, you might have noticed that the series is also filmed in Bolton, Rochdale and Stockport so it's all over Greater Manchester not just in the place itself.

I loved the last series, I don't mind where it's filmed as long as it's not the North East as I don't like it. Anyone remember Merseybeat? That got axed so that the BBC could have a Geordie police show which turned out to be a two series wonder haha. Wasn't cuffed at all when that happened.

Shame it's the last series they are going to do though. The bloke playing Sam didn't want to do another series which is fair enough as there is only so long he can be in 1973. I love to go back to that era but only if my camera was able to come along too! Would have a feild day I would!

Life on Mars is an excellent depiction of the ghastly 1970's.

The three day week, the strikes, the grottiness, the winter of discontent, corruption, the IRA, weak governments and the general feeling of decline in Britain. And then a certain woman came along and changed it all.....

A great final episode I think, leaves the door open for a 3rd series I suppose if they change their minds, even though the 2007 version of Sam Tyler now appears to be dead.

They put the sloppy kiss in just for people like you, ya great soppy <insert Gene Huntism here> !

It was a nice finalé. Personally, I'd like to see a new series but with Tyler back in Victorian times. That'd be fun. Looking forward to Ashes to Ashes though.

LOL!

Gene Hunt, what a character! Considering it was the un PC 70s, you'd have thought they would have named the character Mike Hunt:PDT11

There's something of a paradox to be considered: he spent all the preceding episodes trying to ensure that the 2007 Sam didn't die. Funny how when he does die (albeit uncertainly) he somehow ends up back in 1973, eh ? I was quite fond of the idea that 1973 was reality and that Sam's futuristic visions and memories were imaginary. Ultimately, the fantastical, full of holes, silly, no-need-to-tie-up-all-the-loose-ends approach worked because this has become a classic TV series which people will remember and talk about for years.

Here's a thought for you and Ste....
Perhaps when Sam Tyler jumped off the roof, he didn't die, but sustained head injuries and is in a coma? Good excuse for a third series, eh?:)

I enjoyed those last 2 more than the rest, whole series is good though. Reminds me of 'The Prisoner' which has become a cult, even with people who weren't born when it was made. I am sure they will make another series.:002:

Does anyone know the viewing figures for this programme? I'm assuming they must be massive given the amount of media hype around it.
