Everton the peoples club
Liverpool the franchise.
On 28 March 2007 a team of Everton Greats will take on a team of former Barcelona players to help raise the funds to acquire the David France Collection.
This will be the first occasion that the two clubs have met since 1924 when Everton won the Barcelona Cup in a four-way tournament designed to help the fledgling Catalan club. That Cup has resided at Goodison Park ever since.
"Our association with FC Barcelona stems from our dealings with the European Former Players Association of which both clubs are leading lights in their respective countries," said Tony Tighe, a Trustee of the Charity.

Perhaps because as the Peoples Club they want to make the people feel genuinely part of the club by making them pay for the collection. :)
Joking and antagonism aside though, its a disgrace that given how mcuh the pay the players they arent willing to stump up a relatively small amount for such a fantastic collection of history and memorabilia.

As a blue, I agree with you.
I hear this unsure if its true but all the Everton players and managers wages would pay the wages of the three top earners at Liverpool.
Maybe thats why they can't afford to buy the collection.
Then surely if everyone's wages at Everton only cover 3 of Liverpool's top earners, Everton should be able to afford to buy this collection - and it'd be Liverpool who couldn't afford it (not that they'd want it) - if you get what I mean.
Liverpool are the 10th richest club, I don't think Everton are on the list
Apparently Liverpool are also the most successful club... Everton aren't on the list :unibrow:
Everton's turnover was still £58.1 million in 2005-6, leaving them only just outside the top 20 in the world.
Ste, where did that info come from, very interesting that they are just outside the top 20 in the world?

I think you'll find us about 4th in England. :Colorz_Grey_PDT_16:

You might find that Real Madrid are top too, but only because they are bankrolled - they should be top of the most 'in debt' team. Funny out it works eh because Lfc were 80M in the red when the U.S. chaps were looking at the books.

The Deloitte (http://www.deloitte.com/dtt/cda/doc/content/UK_PressRelease_DeloitteFML07(1).pdf) money league puts Benfica as 20th richest club in terms of turnover in 2005-06 with £58.8 million. Everton's turnover was £58.1 million according to this report (http://sport.independent.co.uk/football/news/article2067630.ece), so they can only be just outside.

.."I feel now however that a VERY SMALL - and i will repeat this - VERY SMALL section of Our support (Everton`s)is tarnishing our clubs name. They are making us appear something the we are not, especially to our kopite rivals, that we are bitter and twisted.......oh and even worse have nothing else to sing about, and worse than that we've forgot our roots - what we stand for (that is singing about our history -standing for greatness) and where we come from (us and Kopites are all scousers at the end of the day).."

Some people really do love beating themselves up don't they - I bet he wants to apologise for slavery too. Come on.... Kopites sing about the Munich air disaster, Peter Reid used to come in for some 'outside footy matters' stick, Graeme Souness wrote for the sun - no one teams fans are pearly white. The banter is great and I still drink with the 'enemy' before and after the match, no matter what the score.

Great post scouserdave !!!
I just flew back to Toronto after a trip back home and I couldn't agree more that it's a small section of Everton that seem to have become so bitter over the last decade.
The problem though is that it's getting worse instead of better. The banter has always been there but this bitterness is relatively new.
It's sad really.

The bitterness in my eyes seemed to really start around the time Liverpool won the UEFA Cup. A few days before we played Barcelona in the semi it was the Gary Mc derby and they had a minutes silence as it was close to the Hillsborough anniversary. A solitary Blue shouted 'what about heysel' and it descended into chaos. Things havent been the same since.
There's only two things that can happen for things to get better. Either patiry has to be restored on the pitch - relations between fans were at their best in the mid 80s when both teams were winning everything in sight, or Everton need to get relegated and then we dont have to worry about each other.
