Idea for a small thread from Kev... just chatting off topic in an introduction thread on here...

Your first computer... what was it?
I was introduced to computing at a very early age, prob about 10 years old.
My forst comp was a Commodore 64... here I would play games and make the most basic of programs :)

I can remember being dead jealous of one of my friends coz she had an Amstrad, witht he cassette tape on the side... we used to play slots on it and I thought it was the best thing ever :)

oh god, that would ALWAYS mess up... you would sit there for 20 minutes watching the screen happily load, then at the end there would be an error in line 207

First computer was a very limited 48K +. Basically a hard typed set of keys for the 48k - looked like a +2A but without the Tape player.

First PC was a DX2 66 and cost me £2000 - it was the highest spec you could get at the time!

Mine was a Sharp can't remember the model all in one unit you loaded
the OS system from a cassette tape, great machine, then upgraded
to a 286 with a 40mB hard drive and DOS...

BBC! It was a massive television screen with a tape deck where you put the programmes into. Spent ages on that thing.

The next one was a Tiny Computer running on Windows 95. That still works but is on 98 and is rather slow.

Sega Mastersystem I think, then Megadrive.

Great thread :D .. My first was an Atari ST, with a midi port!!! :unibrow: , then I got an Amiga 500 with 2mb of memory  , and then I got an Amiga 1200A, which had an internal hardrive and 6mb of memory..

Its a shame that all the computers we are talking about were able to just plug into a television via the AV plug.. but PC's were unable too... until only fairly recently.

An Amstrad.
I've still got loads of stuff on 5 inch floppies.
Is there anywhere in Liverpool that'll transfer them to CD?

An Epson PCAX2e. It was a 12MHz 286 running MS-DOS 3.3 with 640KB RAM, a 40MB HD and a 256-colour 640x480 pixel display - quite advanced for 1989.

It's still running. My daughter has it in Sheffield. She still plays the old Apogee arcade games such as Jumpman and Paganitzu on it that she grew up with as a child.

Can we arrange something ?

What size disks? The Epson used 3.5" 720kB disks. I replaced the 5.25" drive in the early nineties.

A Macintosh Classic running system 6.0.4. Still got it, albeit upgraded to 7.5, and it's still going strong.
Been a Mac Head ever since...
