View Full Version : Shrewsbury
Was down there today.
D'you know when you're used to seeing things a certain colour. I remember the wirral buses were blue and I'm sure I remember seeing a yellow fire engine either there or somewhere else and thought it very odd. well here's a blue McDonalds.

Oh, and where we had superlamb bananas, they have full grown sheep.

I love Shrewsbury and Shropshire. Lovely area.
I'd agree with that !, some of my ancestors are from the area, how they could have left all that for Liverpool, I know they followed the work but what a culture shock it must have been !

And it is so easy to get there. The roads are great. I've being going for years.
They have a great indoor market in Shrewsbury that sells soil carrots and other veg pulled straight out the fields. Really good fresh produce. The Darwen shopping centre is good too.

My dad's half brother married a Shrewsbury girl and settled there. We did go up to visit them in Shrewsbury when I was younger, but sadly we have lost touch now. I often think of looking them up :)
I have 'half' cousins there.

I can't decide between those 2 pics, so I like Borth too :PDT11
I was back down in Shrewsbury again today on business.
It's an incredibly old and picturesque place, fast becoming a face with me. Many Chester/York type mock tudor properties, some reminiscent of York's shambles.
I managed to capture the castle, railway station, prison and library amongst others but would need another trip to snap many other features such as the river and bridges that run through the centre, then of course the museum and priory.

It's less than an hour from me. Used to go quite often but don't think I've been for about 5 years now.
Coincidentally, used to go around the ring road on our way to Borth!
Spike, slap my wrists cos i've just re-read this thread from the top and only just seen your fantastic pics and can't beleive i've captured about 3 or 4 of the same pics as you, almost from identical positions but your castles ones are much better as I didn't go around that side.
Loads of old architecture there. I like Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds but Shrewsbury is the best of the lot for me.
Borth looks brill too, so much like the Kent estuary up at Arnside and Silverdale in Cumbria.

The castle has the regimental museum. They hold the ww2 diary of the 51st Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery. My Grandads Regiment in Italy.
Very beautiful town, thanks for sharing with us. I was there at last May on my way to Berriew. We spent a few hours to explore the city............
