Cracking pics folks, thanks.
Marky, I think you're safe enough taking pics from the Manchester Street car park mate. LOL!
Gnomie 01-30-2007, 01:09 PM Nice pics guys:PDT_Piratz_26:
As Tony knows, one of my all time favourite streets as it was my second playground after our tenement square. The number of games you could make up in this area, you wouldn't believe - and the kids these days with Xboxes, 100 + channels and top of the range sports centres say they're bored. The mind boggles.
Gerard 01-30-2007, 02:38 PM A few of my William Brown Street..Hope yer like them.
Ged,D'yer remember Little Wembley..the Little patch of grass outside to the Left of The Walker Art Gallery!!

Ged you will have to organise a forum games day there. show the kids how its done:rolleyes:
Great pics Tony and Gerard. Yes, I remember little Wembley, decimated now since they made that disabled ramp lol. Also the giants grave up Mill lane, should be in the myths and legends thread.
We'd also walk around the little ledge (outside the windows) from one side of the Walker to the other, if you fell off, you went out with Mary kill the cat. We'd also jump across that void, from the flat roof by the picton gasometer onto the grass verge facing it, the gap felt 20 feet wide when you were 12 but having looked at it again, it's about 4 foot lol.
We'd also play footy on that sloping piece of grass in St John's Gardens where there were no flowers, the piece at the St. John's lane end at the top, I think there's a flower arrangement in the middle of it now. Lots more things too.
Louis 01-30-2007, 03:29 PM love those pics of st georges gardens:)
lindylou 01-30-2007, 04:08 PM I like that one of the gardens too.

I like that last one especially mate - well in.
This is what we used to call that mound of stones and grass seemingly dumped at the side of the Walker Art Gallery, up Mill Lane. As kids we'd dare each other to go down there, aware that we could awaken the giant. Someone told me the other day that this was probably a myth of sorts, but I took this with the zoom on, just in case...anyone know what it really is please?

quincyg 04-09-2008, 10:11 PM just looked at my 1906 map and Clayton Street ran right the way along the back then, so could be rubble from demolished or even bombed buildings. However there is also a small sq structure? marked at the side of the art gallery, but map doesn't state what it is.
took a macro pic will upload it for you to have a shufty.

I took this to remind me of the 'ravine' we used to jump across as kids - from the rooftop to the grass on the right. Seemed like the grand canyon when you're 12 - I could do it well easier now :unibrow:

Looking towards my old gaff. Very 1930s art deco this area with the Mersey tunnel entrance buildings, Blackburn Assurance and The Ship & Mitre pub. On the corner of trueman is one of the finest examples of a Georgian Merchant house and so says the blue plaque. The Higsons building lets the place down though - ah well.
