This thread has been suggested by a few members, I have lived abroad since January 1982 so I decided to start it.
I decided to move years ago and procrastinated too long. I wasn't a wide eyed kid looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow I was 43 yrs old and had two kids aged 2 and 4. The UK at that time wasn't a great place to live for a lot of people although being self employed I had always done OK.
I wanted to go to Australia but my ex wife said no, too many bugs there, let's go to the States. So we went to Florida, bug capital of the world.
When we arrived there was a recession here too, but there were jobs, we loved it from the start and seemed to fit in just fine.
A lot of things are different so if you change countries you have to adapt to the country, it won't adapt to you. All things considered, I have never regretted coming here and would not want to come back to live in the UK, however I do like to visit and have been doing that about every 2 years.
My next visit I am organizing to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the Bluecoat. I hated every day I spent there but it will be interesting to go back after 50 years.

Thanks for quoting that Victorialush, I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
Where did I mention marriage problems? My marriage problems were 15 years away when I emmigrated.
I wonder why the mods don't do something about this posters objectionable postings, I have been reminded of the rules twice for responding to them but nothing happens to him. So I chose to put him on ignore, perhaps if others did the same he might change.
And if I'm a loser I just can't imagine how it must feel to be a winner because I have had a great life over here. :037:

I moved away from the UK because I found myself in some sort of rut (My Mum called it a 17 year rut :))
Went to Uni in Liverpool, that was a great experience. Moved to London a few years later through lack of opportunity in Liverpool.. that was a case of bright lights big city. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be, I felt like I joined the rat-race there... the daily commute killed me, 90 minutes there and 90 minutes back... I loved my job in London, I think my skills and experience left me in a niche though.
Met someone online last year, went out to visit a few times and fell in love... had a bit of a long distance relationship and decided to move out here to be with him.
I am now living in Atlanta in Georgia. The climate is much the same but the way of life is at a much slower pace. The people seem pretty nice too.
So I am waiting for my visa to come, hopefully this will all go according to plan, then I will be able to work here.
Sorry Dave, I don't think Shy is a loser. It takes balls and determination to do what he has done.
Would it be impolite of us to ask the same question to your wife. No disrespect mate, she is Filopeno isn't she?
Where did you meet her?
Does she like it in the UK?
Does she miss her family?
I know someone who moved to Wales, does that count :gossip:

They had Bluecoat Schools throughout the UK.
What was the connection?
Anybody know?

Charity Schools. The Liverpool Blue Coat School started out as an orphanage
I'd hate the long plane journey's when having to visit family though If I ever moved to another country.
So Instead If I did they'd have to visit me.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I don't think I'd want to immigrate though.
Australia= Pure Evil.
Why you ask? Well they're too far away.
Plus they're Aussies and they naturally=equal pure evil and don't know the difference between being mother England and the Prisoners.
Why do they bother with the pom term when we are Mother England and they are the prisoners? They were even a Prison colony!
America = Pure Evil.
Do I need to say anymore?
England Mother and Influence of modern civilisation, therefore we are god. America only learnt how to be powerful though, they didn't wait till we taught them Intellect before their Independence.
Does New Zealand still have a woman as Prime Minister? If So why havent they learned from Britain's Thatcher mistake?
France. Well, I have not much bad to say about there. They have cheap food which ain't evil, French Women:PDT_Piratz_26: and I probably have French Ancestry as to why I have a French Surname.
I hope my ancestry comes from the Normandy part, as I don't hold up white flags and vikings had powa.
Although I'm an upgraded 50.0 version of a viking maybe a higher number.
Plus France isn't a hard plane journey compared to 13 hours my brother had to waste to go to San Diego.
I'd like to live in Cork or in the Shetlands. I'd spend my days learning to play the fiddle and drinkin :D

Hey, don't wanna spoil it for yer but Maxi isn't French :Colorz_Grey_PDT_16:

One day it'll be the Isle of Man for me - close enough for Liverpool (40 mins in the air) but with those unrestricted speed limits........:Colorz_Grey_PDT_24:

Lord Street was named after the Molyneux family, Max.
The Molyneux's were the Earls of Sefton and owned all of Toxteth Park at one time.

Heard of that too but don't have a relation to that.
I moved to Wales in the 70's, was a teenager and had to go with my family.. but came back to Liverpool for a few years in the late 70's.. did my clubbing etc, then my mum took ill and I went back to Wales for her sake.. eventually had my daughter and settled sort of.
Lost my mum and brother so just me and my daughter left.. she's the only reason for me to stay here now.
I am very very homesick for Liverpool and am mulling over the idea of coming back.
We visited Liverpool yesterday.. she is amazed at the archtitecture and the culture of the city and bought quite a few books .. she loved the museum but wanted to know more of the history of Liverpool.. being Saturday.. not many places open and we were also tight for time.. for me it was wonderful to be back.. drinking in the atmosphere.. viewing Liverpool as a tourist and as a native.. I was so proud to be showing it to my daughter.. I had a huge lump in my throat when it was time to get the train home :-(
