Bought my first Greggs Meat and Potato Pastie in Old Hall St a couple of days ago. I have to admit that it's up there with Sayers. Who's your favourite bakers?

And a couple of other things:
1. Has anyone tasted Sayers' Scouse Pie? Lovely.
2. Why wasn't there riots on the streets of Liverpool when they closed down the Sayers outlet in TJ's?

I can't decide which one Is better out of Greggs and Sayers.

When I go to either I usually just buy two jumbo sausage rolls, a jame dount and Dr Pepper.

Greggs has more Dr Pepper though, Sayers has mostly Pepsi.

Ain't had a good cornish pasty for a while though, people said they smell like B.O when I was In a computer course In 2003/04.

I had an arm wrestle with someone too once and afterwards when to sayers to buy and drunk two pints of milk for lunch and felt full afterwards.

Greggs food ain't as big as Sayers food though either so Sayers has the size advantage In food, but Greggs Is better for drink.

Nice one Victoria. Will do. I'm probably going to make a fool of myself by asking this non googling question (much prefer finding stuff via real people - far more satisfying), but who and where are Satherswaits? Never heard of them.

Satts... there is one in the Marion Square in Netherton... one down South Road in Crosby... I am not sure whether they are only a north Liverpool thing... they do the best pastries and their pasties and pork pies are to die for.
I may of also spelt their name wrong... I will ask Brendy as she is also an avid fan of them :)

oohh, that's making me hungry :Colorz_Grey_PDT_16:

Gregs V Sayers .. they are both good. Sayers probably do better cakes perhaps.

I couldn't believe it when they pulled out of TJ's ... wonder why they have gone ? Maybe too much competition for TJ's cafe.

They moved right by TJ's by the post office anyway.

London Roads a boring street to be on though.

Satts as we call them cos we cant say Satterthwaites are mostly in and around Crosby, they are a home made cake shop that sell the best pies and pasties ever, the cakes are something else as well.

Whenever there's a party going in the family the buffet gets ordered from here, (I always end up coming home with a doggy bag)...lol.

Waterfields wipes the floor with both. Personally I think Sayers are scum. Worked there for three years and as soon as I handed my notice in, they tried to frame me for theft. They dragged me down to Lorenzo Drive and showed me a video from a hidden camera above the till. They tried to claim I was taking money from the till and placed it in an 'old fashioned cigarette box'.

This 'cigarette box' as I pointd out, was clearly one of those metal pastie sign holders that go on the hot plate.
I also pointed out that there were several 'cigarette boxes' around the till area, no smokers working in the shop and no money missing. i worked my notice and told every customer and staff member of my ordeal, effectively blowing their covert and highly expensive operation out of the water. :)

Tossers.

There was a Cousins on Breck rd. There is a cafe there in it's place but the frontage hasn't altered too much.

I heard somewhere that Cousins was originally a Mormon family business. Don't know if there is any truth in this. Cousins was supposed to be an Elder in the Mormon church.

my mum left school on the Friday and went to work in Cousins on the Monday, so she is forever telling me!

It still had the name in large letters "Cousins Corner" right up until it was demolished.
I always meant to take a photo, but never did.
The building's gone now, with one of the Paradise Project now on the site.

Satterthwaites in South Road has great stained glass.
Now I must take a photo of that!

Must take a closer look at the Breck rd branch next time I'm passing. There might be something of the old frontage remaining.

You're not wrong there about Waterfields. Their sausage rolls do have an element of meat in them not the watery gristle that Sayers and Greggs have. Sayers cakes are better though.

There is an old Cousins shop still with it's original frontage on Aigburth Hall Avenue (just were it becomes Booker Avenue)It has been closed, abandoned and unloved for at least 15 years.
My parents old house was owned by one of the original Mr. Sayers daughters, he bought it as a wedding present for her according to the people who were selling. It was a large 5 bed house off Maiden Lane (Worcester Avenue North)
Back to the original question Greggs potato and meat pasties are better. But since reading this thread I have started to crave for scouse pies:)
