View Full Version : Ebay - Are you a user?
I've just experienced selling on Ebay for the first time. Yes, I've sold my bike to pay for the exhaust :crybaby:
I put it up on friday a fella from Stockport came round tonite and bought it!
I think I have the Ebay bug.
Mainly a buyer I have to say. Find it amazingly cheap for books - especially with the exchange rate for Us Dollars. Got a book from the states for under £6 (including P&P) when over here it would have cost £30 from Amazon.
Never managed to sell anything - only tried the once though, maybe I should try and find something else to shift! :)
A.D.Williams 09-27-2005, 05:13 PM Aye I tend to buy books about Liverpool on Ebay. Got me many a bargin from Ebay.
It's cracking for gig tickets, especially if the one you want is a sell out. Get on as soon as and bang in a high bid and you can more or less guarantee you'll win the bid. Worked for me every time. I've also touched lucky on CDs too!!

I put an expensive bike lock on there last week and have a bid!

victorialush 10-16-2005, 08:33 PM I love ebay. I have sold a few things on there, not made much though... even lost about £50 on a laptop
But I love getting bargains on there, music & clothes are my vice :unibrow:
Check dis out: Decided to sell some of my collection of corgi collectable minis, The Beatles Psychedelic mini is proving quite popular:

Got a user there but never use it.
lindylou 12-02-2005, 07:23 PM I havn't got the E Bay bug yet. Know lots of people who are addicted though.
I can't be bothered to go to so much trouble to sell something; as I understand it, you have to register and join E Bay, then photograph the item, transfering it onto the site - Then if you get a buyer you have to fiddle around with wrapping paper and parcel up the item, and toddle off to queue up in the post office .... oh no, too much bother for me !
... I'm too lazy and impatient for all that ... :)

I was like that. Give it a go, clear out something and sell it, someone will buy it.
Just found out one of my friends (who is a complete Ebay addict) has set up her own company. She comes round your house, identifies stuff you're able to sell, and will do all the hassle of advertising/listing/posting it.
Sounds like a fairly decent job there - not sure how much money she'll make from it though!
theninesisters 01-09-2007, 07:44 PM Set up my own business selling other people's cars for them via my E-bay account - www.wildautos.moonfruit.com

Aye Cheers! I think if E-bay hadn't have been invented, I wouldn't have changed cars so many times, run up a lovely credit card bill and have purchased a collection of fine sh*te :)
I did get the biggest ear bashing when I had a few beers one night and purchased a Fiesta XR2 that was just around the corner - ah well you only live once!!
I have, I am selling at the moment.

MissInformed 01-10-2007, 04:23 PM i love ebay!
i have sold a few things...
and buy something most weeks. Mostly old books, and stuff.
I'm a mad collector of LFC programmes and have bought a few on there, the only problem is the selllers idea of 'good condition' often differs from the reality. I'm currently in the process of selling a load of old college books and am getting good prices
ChrisGeorge 01-10-2007, 05:27 PM For about seven years, I have had a good time getting a lot of good stuff on ebay. I buy a lot of old postcards, particularly from the 1900 to 1910 era. Also buy CD's, coins, and books. I have also sold copies of my War of 1812 book and my Jack the Ripper musical CD, among other items. Overall, my experiences on ebay have been very positive and I will continue to trade there. My handle, by the way, is "otterspool." Motorhemp 01-10-2007, 06:08 PM Used it once to buy an album I'd been searching everywhere for and couldn't get (Fantasy Shift by Here and Now), was pointed to it be YoLiverpools Brenda. Was surprised when it just arrived in the post with no fuss - never thought you could trust these things...

shytalk 01-10-2007, 06:22 PM I've never sold anything but I have been buying for a few years including 2 vehicles. Only had one bad deal it was a microfishe viewer that wasn't packed well and the glass was broken. Got full credit for it but it cost me the postage.
All in all done well from it and have found a few Liverpool movies that aren't available elsewhere. :037: My handle is scouse14

I will mention that a few years ago I did have one episode where someone hijacked my handle (this is before I changed it to Otterspool) and people started to contact me about a red Mitsubishi car (as I recall) that I was supposedly selling on ebay. I don't know who the hijacker was or how using my handle would help them in the scheme. I have never sold a car on ebay and it wasn't me. So, luckily, I was able to get out of the difficulty in a day or so, as I recall, with the help of ebay's administration who worked quickly to break up the scam.

victorialush 01-11-2007, 07:27 PM I am suspended from eBay now... b'stards... I sold most of my DVDs and CDs, books etc when I knew I was moving.... One of my items was a Prada tracksuit, I think they took me down because you are not supposed to sell designer goods on there, or something.... anyway, they won't reinstate my account so they can kiss it, I am going to Amazon :)
Ebay allow people to sell Burnt Toast with Jesus's face on but not actual proper designer wear?:Smiliz_Kingz_PDT_13

Hi Vicki
You ARE an Amazon! Sorry to hear about your trouble. Don't see why they would disallow such a sale. That's nuts. Anyway good luck to you elsewhere.
Chris
JedExodus 01-12-2007, 06:05 PM I am not an eBayer user, I am the eBay equivilent of an alcoholic licking there short were they spilt some whiskey there last night. Today's purchases are two gaelic football tops and a lava lamp to go with my other two things in my uni room (one being a Snakes on a Plane poster and the other a bed)

I don't even know whether that is the actual problem, they won't give me a specific reason. I keep getting the usual template responses from them. I must check my emails to see if they have replied with the same thing for the 5th time now.
If thats the reason its ridiculous. They allow the law to be flouted by people selling overpriced concert and sports tickets but somebody cant sell second hand Prada
theninesisters 01-29-2007, 08:33 PM E-bay can go an :013: whistle!
Have been watching the book Liverpool: City of Architecture by Quentin Hughes for the past few days, it was up to 16 quid thought I'd get a steal. Can't find it anywhere and this was mint.
So what does E-bay go and do? Forget to e-mail me to let me know my 10 mins is left so I can slip in a bid. Book goes for bloody 18 quid in the end.
So flkucked off!!
Anyone know where I can get one from?

Hi
this happens. I get emails from someone threatening to report me to ebay
as he has paid for a laptop and never got it, looking at the item number
either it don't exist or it is dated 2 years ago, just delete them it is just
a con. Also never accept Western Union, or deal with African countries.
LindyLou says it is a hassle, it can be but if the item your selling is only
small, stick it in a jiffy bag and remember to get proof of postage, big
items, collect only. Don't laught but I won a huge teddy bear, and it was collect only, so I just got a carrier, DHL to pick it up. I was out when it came
so it was left next door, took 2 people to bring it round...

marie 04-13-2007, 09:11 AM I had a problem in January. Besides i was in Liverpool. The bank cancelled my cards, for which they got a notice of duplicate in a place where I bought. I did not have too many problems, for which the bank pay everything.
Lucky, I was in Liverpool with a friend, if I was been alone, I had remained without money during my stay in the city. Lucky, only it was a fright.
Still I have not received the report of the bank, to know where I happened this. I buy for Internet my bills of plane. I never had a problem up. I do not know very well Ebay.
I know another similar web, in which many swindles are produced, called FREE MARKET. This is owed, to the soft laws in these countries of Latin America.

The more common a subject is, the less interesting (ie valuable) the photo is.
The fort at New Brighton must have been photographed thousands of times.
If the building had been demolished, it would make the photo more interesting.
St John's Church in Liverpool is quite rare, because it was demolished before the golden age of postcards.

Liverpolitan 05-07-2007, 08:26 PM Thanks Philip - I wondered if it was a special type of old photographic technique or something. One reason I don't buy photos is I don't know how you would display an old photo without it fading. I know you can get conservation glass to protect them, but its very expensive.
Jona - good luck with the book. I've seen it (not that copy, but that book) a few times on ebay, but I'm afraid I don't know what they usually go for, I don't collect Mersey Tunnel stuff so I don't know the prices. You may already know, but you can get nice little black-glass tiles that commemorated the opening of the tunnel in 1934 - a guy on Wirral was going mental to buy them all I think a while back, and pushing prices up too high whenever they came onto ebay, but they seem to have settled down again. Also you can get tunnel tickets (including pre-war) ones on ebay from time to time, and they don't go for much.
I hardly ever use "Mersey" in my ebay search, because I can't bear all those bloody books by that bloody woman, you know the one, sort of romantic histories with a Liverpool theme I think, they drive me mad. :disgust: They should have their own page and not clog up the proper books page.
