View Full Version : Little Men of Belvedere Road
Carrie's fairies thread jogged my memories of this one. Has anyone else read Tom Slemen's tale (from one of his earlier books) about a couple who lived in Belvedere Road who disturbed some sort of mound in their garden and then got a tiny piece of paper with death threat through their door then the family cat got shot by some small arrows which had to be dislodged by a vet. Its really far fetched but what makes it stick with me is the fact it was a solicitor who it allegedly happened to and they signed a sworn affidavit stating it.
I saw some faireys on Byrom st..........once ;D
:unibrow: :ninja:
No mate, but thank you for starting this thread, I love all these little known stories :)

hi ste, just read your post and it reminded me of the year that lepracauns were said to be in liverpool. I was just a kid at the time and like every other kid I thought it was true. we were told that they were in st maries church and after school almost every kid at st maries school legged it across the road to the church to see them. no sooner had we entered the church we were legging it out again as someone had shouted that they were comming after us. well my mistake was to be one of the first out cos a kid called Danny Callaghan, who was just ahead of me swung the heavy metal gates in his rush to get out and I was hit on the head by it. As I sat there stunned I heard a girl shout "look at that lads head" and then I felt the blood. so my memory of the little people is there on show in the form of a scar and the memory of Dr Cole stitching me up.
Welcome emcardle. Were they these fairies by any chance?

I remember someone telling us as kids that there were some at the back of Berry's pawnshop on Richmond Row - the 1970s this was.
They must have got around a bit on those small legs or little wings. :)
Not in Liverpool but the Cottingley Fairies are a **** interesting read.

Not those two old women who fooled Arthur Conan Doyle and admitted it when in god's waiting room?

lepracauns where reported in Botanic park, many kids turned up. The police moved the kids on and the story hit the newspaper. I read it somewhere? I think 1960's.

Well remembered with that comment, Ged. I immediately thought of the
same thing - but you beat me to it. Glad you did - I didn't know (or perhaps
I've forgotten) that they later confessed to the hoax.

I c an remember a wave of hysteria among children in Kirkby. There were supposed sightings of leprechauns in St Chads graveyard and lots of children from the surrounding areas crowded into church grounds and came away screaming. That was in 1960 0r '61.My kid sister Bette was one of those children. Does anyone out there know of this tale?
