Commemorative signs are lasting statements of the achievements of an individual, or group of people. They can also illustrate the history of a particular building or site, or erected to mark an historic event.

There are many around Liverpool, we have so many of the 'blue plaques' dotted all over the show!

Get snapping with your cameras kids! :PDT_Piratz_26:

I know I know, I snapped this whilst walking around the Hope Street/ Rodney Street area a while ago and didn't give it a thought to get its location. But now the thread has been created specifically for this then we must say where these are, maybe a picture of the building too :)

Dingle Lane...Matthew Arnold died nearby. I've seen this style of plaque a lot around town, but plaques are rare around Dingle.

Peter Litherland (1756-1805) was a watchmaker and inventor. He was born in Warrington and later moved to Liverpool, which was then the centre of the watchmaking trade. In 1791 he patented the rack lever escapement for watches, which was more accurate than the commonly used verge escapement. (from answers.com)

Memorial to John Michael Bailey on factory wall, Blackburne St, Garston. Anyone know the history behind this plaque?

This pub can only be described as having been vandalised in its conversion and refurbishment. Anyway, spotted this sign . It seems to refer to the days when it was a Walker's pub.

Yes, I tried twice to attach them without success.
I'll try again in this mail but if there's nothing to see, I've had the same problem.

Worked this time after I made the files smaller

We do have a thread for blue plaques.
Perhaps they should all be merged into one thread.
I've just snapped the Gerard Manley Hopkins one this evening.

It doesn't say 'English Heritage' on it, so I presume Liverpool City Council are behind these plaques.
Anybody know?

Phill: I would imagine that it is just the City Council installing these plaques, The Liver Bird being the City Council's logo?????

Next to the Sitting Bull Statue at the Grassendale Park end of Otterspool Promenade. I was surprised to find it there.

There's a similar plaque in Dale Street on the magistrates courts building (former city police bridewell), viz, as follows. I used to work for the Corporation Cleansing Dept. at the window on ground level for a summer job in 1967 which is why I photographed the corner this past May. If I recall correctly, the plaque records that the clock- and watchmaker John Wyke (1720-1787) lived at that location.

Sadly the local yobs have smashed up this delightful seating area on Otterspool Promenade. I'm surprised it wasn't renovated during the recent £1.8M refurbishment of this part of the promenade.
