Has anyone got any information about The Forest car manufacturing co of Liverpool. They we based somewhere around Duke Street and made cars that were also used as Taxi's in Liverpool in the 1920s.

I have the observers book of cars 1966. There's a load of cars I've never heard of nevermind seen. No mention of Forest. The 1st edition of the Observers book of cars was published 1955 so maybe ,just maybe they could be in there.

Blakes made Rolls Royces.

Wasn't Blakes at the what is now Liverpool One end of Duke St?

Street directories should help.
Can't say I've heard of ANY car makers in the city centre.

Don't understand what WW means: "Blakes made Rolls-Royces".
Blakes sold cars, and were Ford dealers.
They are also listed as Motor Car Body Builders, but hardly in the same league as (for example) Hoopers.
Blakes were in Hardman Street and Bold Street.
(Wm Watson was the Rolls Dealer - just read that on Flickr).
It wasn't until after the war that Rolls starting building their own bodies.
Prior to that they just supplied the chassis.

There was a car manufacturer in the city. There was also one in West Derby but I cant find any information about them.

Interesting to note, a family friend of mine used to run a car showroom opposite the Bombed Out Church at the bottom of Hardman Street - it's now a Fried Chicken place. He still owns the building and says that the basement is big enough to drive in about 10 cars! I've been meaning to get a picture from him.

If it was in the early 60's my parents got a used maroon Ford Anglia from there - returned it when I found an oil change sticker in the boot that showed the mileage on the clock was fiddled...:disgust:

Right opposite the bombed out church, and a fairly narrow store...
