Sad to hear of the passing of Eric Carmen,at 59,probably best known for "All by myself",a classic break-up song! He was a member of the influential Raspberries, and also the Boxtops, who had a hit with "The Letter",in the 60's!

You probably do...."Give me a ticket for an aeroplane, aint got time to catch a fast train" (The Letter) ring any bells?

I wonder if there is some confusion -- Alex Chilton (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/19/arts/19chilton.html) who was a member of the Boxtops and wrote "The Letter" has just died.

Somehow just can't connect Eric and the Boxtops.
Love The Letter.

I'm starting to feel like I've been WIKI'D! It was on my AOL homepage, with a mention of his Raspberries/solo career, but also mentioned "The Letter" as a hit, by him and his band, the Boxtops, which I wasn't aware of,though I knew the song! ????????

I've just had a look, and Alex Chilton has definitely died, but no sign of anything on Eric Carmen? I apologise for any cock-up,but I repeated what I saw,but next time.....forewarned is forearmed!!

Both great songs.

It probably went over some people's heads but the tune for "All By Myself" was a classical piece.
Was it used in "Brief Encounter"?

I could cheat and Google it, but I won't.

Rachmaninof, I think.
