Interesting the same Latin motto, "Deus nobis haec otia fecit," appears to be the motto of the Boleyn and Bolger families (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jkmacmul/namemeanings-coatofarms/mottoes_Bo-By.html), who translate it as "God has given us this tranquility." Chris ChrisGeorge 12-15-2006, 05:33 PM Hi all Has anyone noted the funny looks on the faces of the two blokes in that version of the Liverpool coat of arms at Municipal Buildings (http://www.aidan.co.uk/photo6211.htm)? We could almost run a caption contest for the funniest caption or captions of whatever they're saying. Is that fellow on the right, actor Jude Law? :celb (23): Chris PhilipG 12-15-2006, 07:04 PM Is the site by Liverpool City Council? Perhaps they don't want people to find the Municipal Buildings by giving out a wrong address? ChrisGeorge 12-15-2006, 07:09 PM Hi Philip Appears to be a private site by "Aidan O'Rourke Photographer Writer Website Publisher." He directs people to the Liverpool government site. I don't know where Aidan is based but possibly it isn't Liverpool. He may think Municipal Buildings is on Water Street. . . Dale Street after all is Water Street extended as you move east away from the Mersey. I sent him a message through his website to ask for a possible correction of the wording on his site where he describes the location of the coat of arms. Chris Hi Chris, it's apparently taken from Virgil's epilogue (Epilogue 1,6) and, in context, is a eulogy of the idyllic country life. In Italy the motto is inscribed on the doors of certain villas which have now been given over to the pursuit of country retreats and holidays. Chris Now that I've looked again, I can see he's the chap who has loads of photos of Manchester, including cinemas. Thank you very much for that information! Also, Philip, yes, I had the impression that Aidan O'Rourke might be Manchester-based, although I did not want to say that since his website doesn't make it clear where he is. Chris aidanorourke 12-16-2006, 01:27 AM Thanks to Chris George for flagging up the error on my site, in which I said the Municipal Buildings are on Water St, in fact they are on Dale St. I've now corrected the error. I'm based in Manchester, but am a great fan of Liverpool. I go there as an antidote to Manchester, but even though it's only 35 miles away, I don't get to visit often enough. I'm following developments in Liverpool with interest and will be further expanding the Liverpool section on my site - just type my first name into Google to find it. PhilipG 12-16-2006, 01:43 AM Welcome Aidan. Thank you for all the cinemas you've photographed.
