View Full Version : Statement from Everton
CLUB STATEMENT
Everton Football Club, Tesco and Knowsley Council have confirmed they are fully committed to investigating a major regeneration initiative in Kirkby, which could include a new Everton football stadium, a Tesco superstore and other community and retail facilities.
All three parties will now look exclusively into the potential opportunities and the viability of such a development. Everton Football Club have given their full commitment to investigating the feasibility of Kirkby becoming the home of their new stadium and will not explore any other possible sites at this time.
The three parties will produce a joint business plan that considers all potential elements of the proposed development. This plan will then be reviewed to ensure it represent the best way forward for all concerned including the local community.
Everton, Tesco and Knowsley Council are fully committed to involving the community and local businesses in discussions over a potential development in the coming months.

Once all the detailed points are given they will be sold. At the mo' most are 50-50 as nothing ahs been presented to them.
Kirkby should be a part of Liverpool within 5 years - hopefully. If the other lot get in then no. They like centralisation in London. I would rather have Speke, near the airport and main rail line.
Speke would have been a great venue, I also liked the idea of Cronton off the M62 and M57 being a possible venue.
The new state of the art training ground is coming along very nicely at Halewood you can see it clearly from the Ford Road going to Widnes.
Sloyne 06-20-2007, 01:07 PM The period of "Exclusivity" between Everton Football Club, Tesco and Knowsley Council has now expired and Liverpool City Council can enter into negotiations with a view to keeping Everton within the city boundaries. Reported on another site Liverpool CC have offered Everton a choice of eight sites, two of which "tick" all the boxes and one in particular has pole position.
The favoured site is bounded by the Liverpool-Leeds Canal, Sandhills, Great Howard Street and Boundary Street. The site fits all requirements and even has it's own Merseyrail station at Sandhills. We shall see.
Paul D 06-20-2007, 02:42 PM I really hope Everton seriously consider the site Sloyne,I'd hate to think they've already made their decision.
That site is currently taken up by McBurney refridgeratipon (formerly Pleroma Distribution) so is not vacant as far as I know
Sloyne 06-20-2007, 03:57 PM That site is currently taken up by McBurney refridgeratipon (formerly Pleroma Distribution) so is not vacant as far as I know Just revisited the site and see a map which shows the site bounded by the Merseyrail line, Liverpool-Leeds Canal, Sandhills Lane, Boundary Street.
Personally? I think the decision to leave Liverpool has already been taken and it would take a miracle to keep Everton in Liverpool. A pity and a definite loss to Liverpool in image, prestige, jobs, investment and publicity. Everton being one of the oldest football clubs in existence and it's worldwide recognition as a sporting icon will be lost to Liverpool.
I agree that a new stadium with better links and parking is needed but also agree that where possible all attempts should be made to keep it in Liverpool but if the Tesco money is a main factor, I can't see a Tesco being any use near the Dock Road somehow. McBurney is definitely still there and furthermore, they're building new industry/units within that boundary you mention, up at the Boundary street end.
scouse mouse 06-20-2007, 06:56 PM Interesting.
What website is Sloyne basing this on ?
Is this land owned by the city ?
Where is the money coming from if Tescos are not part of the equation ?

As I said in an earlier post, I think the decision to leave Liverpool has already been made and that decision, IMHO, is irrevocable. But I guess we will know soon enough.

Isn't it ironic and two faced that the scare mongerers called keep Efc in Liverpool who are demonstrating at Knowsley town hall about the congestion that Kirkby can expect are also protesting at how the 'congested' County Road relies on Everton being there <doh>

But me thinks it is a good partisan scoring pair, if you have something against Everton and it's fans and the height of hypocrisy to be even commenting if you are not an Evertonian.
PS: I have no problem with people, even non Evertonians, discussing the merits, or lack thereof, of Everton leaving Goodison Park to wherever, but I do find it quite disingenuous when I see people who support another team commenting just, for what seems to me, to score some kind of brownie points.
