RIP Lavender.
Chavez is also very genorous and should be a great champion and what he and De La Hoya said are words that true champions speak.
As dangerous as the sport is, it doesn't seem to have so many deaths either. A ring doctor has led to calls for a change in the way the sport is monitored. These tradegies just happen when a certain punch lands. Sometimes it can also be by dirty tatics like headbutts, rabbit punches or kidney blows which is common in the sport.

Lots more havehad permanent injuries than deaths like Nigel Benn'sfightwith Gerald Mc Clellan which left Mc Clellan needing permant 24 hour health care and a charity for him to pay his medical expenses which about 70 grand a year!

Nobody is forced to be a boxer. The sport does more good than harm.
Didn't a fighter die against Joe Bugner too?
Ulric Regis v Joe Bugner, Ulric apparently died.
