Hi

I am looking for any information on Barbara Thwaite whose parents owned Thwaites Dairy circa 1968.
She is the mother of my older brother's brother, if that makes any sense. I did see an old thread which included a comment from dioraddict asking for information on the dairy as they were relatives of her father, if you could get in touch that would be great. Any help would be appreciated, my brother wants to find his Dad and this seems to be the best way to go

Thank you in advance

I faintly remember the dairy ,I was born in Webster Rd 1968 & can remember going out of my back yard gate to see the cows & horses,I was 5 when we moved
I checked 1911 Gores directory- Richard Thwaite, cowkeeper 53 Annerley Street
there was also a John Thwaite's dairy at 356 Edge Lane & 35 Smithdown Rd

Hi
dioraddict

What is that?

Didn't Thwaites move to Allerton Rd on the Corner of Rose Lane, next to the cinema?

I used to help deliver the milk on a horse and cart around the Lark Lane area late 40s early 50s, and the man who had the cart was Eddie Thwaite, and the dairy was off Aigburth road opposite the old army barracks. There used to be a lot of small dairies in those days before the big guys started ie CO OP ETC

I'm pretty sure Thwaites was a dispersed family business. Many dairies owned by brothers, etc.

I used to pass this dairy on the way to Webster Road School 1960-64.
They usually had the cows being unloaded from a transporter to the dairy just as I was returning from my dinner.
It blocked the back entry off making us nearly late back for school some times.
The strong smell of the cows hung around the entry.
My memories of Thwaites dairy

Dear Newbie,

I can't help much but I remember the Thwaites in Annerley Street well, I was in the same class as John Thwaite one of the sons of the Annerley Street Thwaites in the 50's and a best mate of Colin Thwaite his cousin also in the same class at Sefton Park school. Its many years since I saw either of them though. I think the Annerley Street Thwaites or at least John moved to somewhere in Lancashire. But that is about all.

think the councils slum clearance also had somthing to do with it.
think it got pulled down about 71 after suffering a few fires.left a patch that used to flood into a big puddle after the rain. (for us slum kids it was our boating lake) many a airfix got "nuked" by me
