Why?

I don't see loads of excitement in kicking a ball into the net, yet crowds of people go WHAAAAAAAAY!

And dance like this emoticon.

No a geek and a person training to be a fighter.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Why? I am asking why is football so loved.

I was always too strong to play football. Id acidentally always trip over people trying to get the ball or fall on them sometimes!!

Or they'd try not to run into me.

It is the passion of the game... the tactics and excitment of scoring... competition and honour of supporting your team.

I know I don't follow much day-to-day league football. I tend to be told the score after the fact.

But the world cup gets me going, I will go to watch this and scream, sing and dance about with a couple of other hundred people. I find that stimulating. The whole crowd having the same emotions, elation, sadness etc.. good stuff

Your passion is boxing Maxie, the excitment you get from that is the same as what others have with football. Different strokes and all that.

It was the Olympics that got me into it at first.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

What else is that the work they put into preparing and passion and how they can take a loss better than footballers and some fans and they get all worked up blaming managers or whatever just because they lost.

Even with lower money they seem to put more dedication than a pro footballer who gets depending on how good they are 50k a week. A fighter might not even make that in a year and some pros are working full time jobs as well as being in the gym.

Amazingly I was trying to work out why football was so loved the other day. I was thinking what else could people have in common across almost every country on the globe!

As for the pro footballers Max, I agree with your statements above - hence why I'm more avid follower of lower league football. At the big clubs (esp. Premiership) the fan is no longer a fan, they're quite simply a source of revenue. At least in the lower league you're given some consideration, and the players interact with the supporters, and there is defiantly a sense of community about the club, something which is sadly lacking these days from normal life.

The reason why football is so popular could well be attributed to this sense of community, a feeling of belonging... Certainly probably helped it to become what it is today...

I love football, but am beginning to hate the modern TV money inspired game, the overpaid players moaning about playing twice a week, bungs all over the place and tickets touching the £50 mark. I dont think I'll come round to my mums verdict of "22 grown men chasing a pigs bladder with idiots paying to watch them" but can see me packing in my LFC season ticket soon and watching a lower league side where the players appreciate the fans support.

Max - you're a bit obsessed with boxing so you must understand why people love certain sports. Football, unlike boxing has very social elements, and gets people together. I'm not a fan of any sport and I do think people get too obsessed with football. (Especially Evertonians:Colorz_Grey_PDT_16: )

I hated football until I spent the summer abroad where I watched the world cup, in an English bar full of 'Patriotic' English people (and some Spanish England fans)

It was good fun. I don't think it should be taken too seriously though and I hate to hear of 'football thugs'.
