in the dip just under Sunnyside apparently.

Stories abounded of flooding in this part marshy part of the park where the graves from a medieval plague-pit rose to the surface.

Spooky. But is it a true story? Certainly the map of 1851 seems to indicate this spur of parkland to be marshland. I wonder if anyone's got any more info?

I was born and brought up opposite it in 32 Devonshire...

Courtney introduced acid to the whole music scene in no.20.(which is directly oppsite it) She lived there with Copey and Bunnymen et al.

The C.Love stuff? Well I did know people who knew her.
Bill Drummond writes about it in his book, '45' I think it's called.
Copey writes aboput it in his book, 'Repossessed', and finally she's just released her diary pages in a glossy new book, the ealier sections of which are written in and about her experiences in Liverpool.

I wouldn't mind knowing more though.

...I can't really remember. As I say I was born and brought up on that road and it was just local knowlege that it had happened some time -and I'm grasping at a memory here- some time in the 60's??

I have a copy of Griffiths' History of the Royal and Ancient Park of Toxteth of 1907, and if I recall correctly, there is nothing about a medieval cemetery in that area, in the vicinity of Princes Park. Usually for there to be a cemetery of such date, there would be an associated chapel and I know of none except for the nearest at that date being Childwall Church and St. Mary del Quay (later St. Nicholas) on Water Street. Methinks, if it really is a medieval graveyard, it might have been a family cemetery of some kind.

Like Chris, I've never heard of a medieval graveyard.
As part of the Royal Park of Toxteth it was only occupied by deer and their keepers until the early 17th century when some Puritans moved into the area.
They built the first church in Toxteth, which is now the Ancient Chapel

The only grave I know around there is Judy the Donkeys' (died 80 years ago)

There's nothing to find out.
There were stables at the Princes Road end of Devonshire Road.
It was always an interesting "Ruin", but they were Victorian, and have now been converted into housing.

Apparently, the medieval burial ground was relocated together with McKenzie from the pyramid tomb to an underground street near Lewis's which can only be reached via the hidden Hodson st rail station near Byrom St. It's in haunted Liverpool 56.

ps. I used to visit my father-in-laws mum at the old peoples home in Mill St. Haunted to hell it was, full of grey ladies.
