How long do you think we're

going to have to put up with this uneccesary no-mans-land between city and waterfront? I know there have been tentative investigations into the viability of

sinking it in to a tunnel and the like, but there must be a point coming with all the investment coming into the area whereby we just might be able to afford

to do it? If we don't do something soonish we'll have to wait for the next 'boom' who knows when?

I just imagine how valuable a strip of prime

waterfront real estate might be created if we say, halved the width of it from the Baltic to the Princes. We could earmark the land for an independently

occupied developement of locally-owned, Ramblas-style 24hour entertainment...or something.

I suppose the creation of the new bus terminal throws in a

spanner in the works like.

In the 60s the original idea was for the

Strand/Wapping etc to be an elevated motorway.

The centre is speading out onto the

dock waterways - so the they tell us. There is no need for the Dock Rd at all. It should be cut up and not be an urban mortorway, as it acts as a large

barrier separating the dock waterways from the hinterland. Of course it should be intact on the commercial north end section - as that was its intention, a

service road for commercial docks.

Through traffic can run around the centre on the land side.

There has been no joined up thinking, no master

plan for the docks - UNESCO criticised the council for not having one. If there wasa master plane, then bus stations would not be in inappriopriate places,

and the Dock road running through the centre can become a semi-pedestrianised Ramblas style of affair. Even a park could be extended right up to Canning

Dock quays. The city then would be moving onto the dock waterways and riverfront - the way it should be.

Whichever way you look at it the Dock road

has to go.
