Are they basically just stands?

I'm looking for one for my Fujifilm and this one is an

alternative to the tripod.

Yes, basically ajustable stands, but they screw

into the camera.
I'm getting along very well without using one.
That bag thing looks like a good idea. Use it on any flat surface (litter bins,

walls, kerb-side railings, even cars if you're cheeky). It looks like it's ajustable.
I took this one of Grand Central resting the camera against an

upright wall. I was experimenting and it was a long exposure, & there's probably a little camera shake.
The one of Caesars was taken on a litter

bin.
Both were taken with the Available Light setting (no flash).

Although not as good as a

proper tripod, Max, the little camcushion thingie is good all the same. I carry one just like that in my camera bag along with plenty of spare batteries.

A tripod is indispensable if you want to take night shots. If you just wish to get by without one, fine, that's

up to you. Phillip's camera has obviously auto upped the ISO, hence all the noise in his night pics.

If you decide to get a tripod and your digi

camera has shutter priority mode, play around with shutter speeds of between 2 - 8 seconds. If you also have a timer, set it to 2+ seconds to avoid camera

shake:PDT_Aliboronz_24: If it's very windy when taking shots of Liverpool's waterfront from Wirral, pack up and go for a bevvy!:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

I have a screw in for one, think I'll buy a basic one off Amazon.

I've got by on a few night shots,

but sounds like a tripod will make sure I don't feel like going down again the next night. Still messing around with photo shop.

Dave's camera bag

sounds like a batman utility belt accept in camera form.:PDT_Aliboronz_24: :Colorz_Grey_PDT_16:

I can hold the camera straight sometimes, but it's

harder when your shoulders get tired.

What's "noise", Dave?
Is it good, or bad?
Here's a shot resting on a little wall.
As long as the camera isn't

moving, why is a tripod indispensable?
I wouldn't feel safe messing with one on Park Road!

Fantastic pic Philip.
Noise (http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_noise.html) is bad, by the way. Google it
Why is a tripod

indispensable? That's a bit of a no brainer. If there wasn't a little wall to place your camera on to take a pic, you could always use a tripod.

I'm not against tripods.
But the point I'm trying to make is I like to take photos as quickly and unobtrusively as possible,

especially when I'm on my own in a dark street.
If the little wall hadn't been there, I'd have looked for a lamp-post to lean the camera

against.
Thanks for the link.
I'm new to digital cameras.

Problem is though, what do you do if there's no little wall, lamp post, post box

etc?:)

I don't get the pic.
My

safety is more important than a good shot.

I've been reading your posts, Dave.
Have you been reading mine?

Using a tripod at night, when alone in a

dark street doesn't seem a wise move to me.
Even taking photos in daylight leaves oneself open to muggers.
I know because I've been to all the sites

in Liverpool (over 100) that used to have cinemas & have snapped them all.

I read your

first post Philip and there was no mention whatsoever about the Health & Safety aspects of using a tripod. You only brought the H&S subject up after I

critiqued a couple of your night shots.

Eazy now :PDT_Aliboronz_11:

I have only decided to use a tripod

recently as the night shots i've taken have suffered from blur and noise. A steady hand still aint no substitute for a tripod I've found through

experience.

General day to day shots in good light, then tripod can be left at home. Unless you are taking a zoom shot.

No probs with me Kev:PDT_Aliboronz_11:
Just be careful out there on Da Streets at

night:)
You also require a tripod for interior shots if you don't want to use a flash.

Drunks try to be funny with you at night in town when your using a camera or riding a

bike, when I've been out.

I ignore them.

I've taken the odd night shot in my time, so I speak from experience. Most people who approach me, be them pissed or drugged up are just

inquisitive nice people. Give them a bit of respect and they won't bother you.

If you ever feel threatened, kill them with your razor sharp tripod

legs:celb (23):

Some are, some try to be funny.

I just don't want them coming upto me or speaking to me.

Wrap yourself in a plastic bag with a big sign sticking out saying

"Leave me alone, I'm a photographerbore" Works for me.
