nI know, too quick to get rid of Brookie considering the crap that's on TV these days?!!
Anyways, a few facts for ya:
The first episode of Brookside
was broadcast at 8:00pm on Channel 4's first night, 2 November 1982.The only other show from that day still broadcast is the popular quiz show Countdown.
The first words ever spoken on Brookside were by extra John Whitehall, who portrayed the Close's milkman on and off for over 10 years.
Executive producer Phil Redmond's first taste of showbiz success came when he sold a comedy sketch to Harry Secombe.
Jimmy Corkhill was only
intended to appear for just six episodes back in 1986, but proved such a hit that actor Dean Sullivan was eventually given a permanent contract.
The facial piercings sported by Louise Hope (Lisa Faulkner) were fake and had to be applied by the make-up artists.
Brookside has twice taken
some of its characters into separate but related mini-series, first with Damon and Debbie in 1987, then with Tracy Corkhill running away to London in South
in 1988.
The name Brookside came about because the cul-de-sac in which the series was based had a brook running next to it.
Brookie was
the first ever British soap to have each week's episodes repeated in a weekend omnibus edition.
When Bobby and Sheila Grant went to Rome in 1987,
scenes were filmed in St Peter's Square, some even showing the Pope on his balcony.
Claire Sweeney's (Lindsey Corkhill) first job was in her
dad's butcher's shop.
The Full Monty star Paul Barber appeared in 1994 as ex-convict Greg Salter.
Ex-Brookside stars Annie Miles (Sue
Sullivan) and David Easter (Pat Hancock) have appeared as divorced husband and wife Maria Starr and Pete Callan in Family Affairs.
Jessie Shadwick
wasn't actress Marji Campi's first role in Brookside. Back in 1989 she played Betty Hunt, who was proposed to by Harry Cross.
Mark Moraghan's
(Greg Shadwick) first job was in his cousin's polythene bag factory. Two years later he won his first acting-related job, working with handicapped children
at a theatre company.
Only six of the 10 houses on the Close were featured in the show. The others are used as a canteen, a make-up and wardrobe
department and a production room.
Louis Emerick had to undertake an extensive weight-training programme in 1996 when his character Mick Johnson was
involved in a steroid abuse storyline.
Peter Phelan's ex-girlfriend was played by actor Sam Kane's real-life wife, former model Linda Lusardi.
Brookie was a family affair for actor Paul Byatt (Mike Dixon). His brother Liam and sisters Sharon and Michelle have all had roles in the show.
Michael Starke (Sinbad) didn't start acting until he was 26, and previously worked as a chef and a roadsweeper.
Philip Olivier (Tim O'Leary)
was a keen amateur DJ and often spun the discs at parties.
In 1990, the actors playing the Rogers family went to the House of Commons to help
launch the British Dyslexia Society's Awareness Week on the back of the story of Geoff Roger's learning difficulties.
Brookie fan Samuel Hope has
modelled his London home on the Corkhills', even down to the lilac wallpaper in the lounge.
When the residents of an estate in Bradford were
consulted about how they wanted their estate to look after redevelopment, they opted for a copy of Brookside Close.
The most-watched episode so far
went out on 31 January 1995. Some 8.96 million watched as Eddie Banks made the gruesome discovery of Trevor Jordache's body.
Over 200 viewers
complained to Channel 4 when one episode ended with Barry Grant apparently on the verge of chopping off a dog's head.
In 1991, Kevin Carson asked
if his character Geoff Rogers could be killed off. As Sue and Danny had already died that year, the producers decided he should leave on a happy note, and
had the footballer join Torquay United.
Vince Earl (Ron Dixon) competed on New Faces in 1975 with his band. He was beaten by Roger DeCourcey and
Nookie Bear.
Jimmy Corkhill's Staffordshire Bull terrier, Cracker, was actually called Kelly and was owned by actress Tina Malone, who played Mo
McGee.
Jason Hope (Rod Corkhill) went on to work for his parents' hairdresser's and was last heard cutting hair in a salon in Bermuda.
Max Farnham wasn't actor Steven Pinder's first stab at soap stardom. Back in the early 1980's he played hapless fitness instructor and corner shop owner
Roy Lambert in Crossroads.
Ricky Tomlinson, who played trade unionist Bobby Grant, was one of the 'Shrewsbury Three', who were jailed in the 1970's for
their part in the building workers' strike.
Sue Jenkins (Jackie Corkhill) is one of a small band of actors to take major roles in two different
soaps. Back in the mid-1980's she played barmaid Gloria Todd in Coronation Street.
Irene Marot, who played DD Dixon originally auditioned for the
role of Billy Corkhill's wife Doreen.
Brookside Parade was opened in the 1000th episode on 9 October 1991 - the same day Sue and Danny Sullivan
were murdered.
Alex Fletcher (Jacqui Dixon) trained under acting coach Nikki Lindsay - sister of Rachael, who played Sammy Rogers.
Tiffany Chapman (Rachel Jordache) was named after Tiffany Welles, one of the lesser known Charlies Angels.
Philip Olivier originally auditioned
for the role of Lee Banks before being cast as Tim O'Leary.
Clive Moore, who played priest Derek O'Farrell, trained as a dentist before turning
to acting.
Although the Parade was supposed to be a short walk from the Close, the two locations were actually five miles apart.
Mark
Moraghan (Greg Shadwick) was one of the Scousers in Harry Enfield's TV shows.
Before joining Brookie in 1986, Dean Sullivan (Jimmy Corkhill) was a
supply teacher between acting jobs.
Brookside was filmed six weeks before transmission. It takes six 10-hour days to make three episodes.
Brookside employed three gardeners to ensure that the plants and flowers seen in episodes are correct for the time of year they are broadcast.
All
the Close's houses had actual hot and cold running water, and fully-functioning central heating, fridges, cookers and washing machines.
The deaths
of Matthew and Emily Farnham came about because producers wanted a surrogacy storyline.
No. 5 Brookside Close was the only house with four bedrooms
and has had more occupants than any other on the Close.
The role of Fee Phelan, eventually taken by Jackie Downey, was meant to be played by Cheryl
Murray, Corrie's Suzie Birchall.
Phil Redmond bought the original nine houses in Brookside Close for £25,000 each.
Kerrie Taylor,
Hollyoaks' Lucy Benson, played the last girlfriend of Beth Jordache.
Georgia Reece, alias Eleanor Kitson, dyed her naturally fair hair brown on
joining the show. This was so she could later return to blonde, unwittingly shocking Ollie Simpson with her resemblance to his blonde daughter, Georgia.
Letitia Dean and Malandra Burrows had minor roles in Brookside before finding greater soap fame in Eastenders and Emmerdale respectively.
Andrew Fillis, who played Lindsey Corkhill's abusive husband Gary Stanlow, originally auditioned for the role of Carl Banks.
Paul Usher (Barry
Grant) was a Bluecoat at Pontins.
The late Gladys Ambrose, who played Julia Brogan, previously appeared in a comedy acrobatic act alongside her
husband Johannes.
Three different versions of the murder of Sue and Danny Sullivan were filmed in 1991, with Barry Grant, Terry Sullivan and Graeme
Curtis each seen pushing them off scaffolding.
Carol Connor who played Carmel O'Leary, is the sister of singer Sonia and sang backing vocals when
she competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993.
Phil Redmond's determination to keep Brookside realistic caused uproar when early episodes
had characters swearing. He eventually caved in to public opinion and toned down the language.
Mal Young, began his career as a props boy on
Brookside before becoming producer in 1991.
Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson, (Sheila and Bobby Grant) raised money for miners' families during
the 1985 strike, and were honoured by the National Union of Mineworkers.
Brookie was due to run the first full-blown AIDS story in British soap
until Ian Bleasdale, who played an HIV-positive shop steward left the show.
Katie Rogers and Sinbad have each occupied six different homes on the
Close or on the Parade.
Sue Jenkins' (Jackie Corkhill) husband is actor David Fleeshman, who played Emmerdale's crooked councillor Charlie
Aindow. David also made a fleeting appearance in Brookie, and was served by Jackie in Ron Dixon's shop.
Comedienne Faith Brown appeared briefly in
1996 as Anne Bradley, mother of Jules, who wed incestuous Nat Simpson.
A number of famous faces have made cameo appearances in the show, including
Russell Grant, Paula Yates, Sarah Greene, Loyd Grossman, Michael Parkinson, Lorraine Kelly and Lily Savage.
The Broadcasting Standards Council
forced Channel 4 to broadcast an apology in 1996 for showing brother and sister Nat and Georgia Simpson in bed together.
Eight characters have been
played by more than one actor since the show began. They are: Lucy and Gordon Collins, Geoff and Katie Rogers, Leo and Gemma Johnson, Tony Dixon and Kylie
Stanlow.
The swimming pool in the Millennium Club is the same one that is used in the college leisure centre in Hollyoaks. It was split diagonally
through the middle with the Brookie Decor on one half and Hollyoaks' on the other.
Residents of the Close are often seen watching a soap called
Meadowcroft Park. This, incidentally, was the original working title for Brookside.
John Burgess (David Crosbie) was once a member of the Royal
Shakespeare Company, and played Helen Mirren's father on stage.
Steven Pinner, who played Jonathan Gordon-Davies, now acts under his real name,
Steven Finch, in order to avoid confusion with ex-Brookside actor Steven Pinder (Max Farnham).
Alan Rothwell, who played Heather Haversham's
heroin-addicted husband Nicholas Black, was one of the original stars of Coronation Street, playing Ken Barlow's brother David.
Actress Noreen
Kershaw, who portrayed Jimmy Corkhill's girlfriend Kathy Roach on the late-1980's, worked as a director on Coronation Street.
It was no
coincidence that Debbie McGrath named her newborn son Simon - it was after Simon O'Brien, who played his late father Damon Grant.
Actor Matthew
Crompton, who was/is PC Sam Harker in The Bill, played bully-boy Darren Murphy in 1992 and terrorised Jacqui Dixon, setting fire to Manor Park School,
trapping her inside.
There was another first in Brookside in February 1999 when Susannah breastfed her baby in Bar Brookie. The scene used a
real-life mother and baby for the shots and was the first time a soap had broken the taboo.
Lee Hartney, who played creepy cult leader Simon Howe,
appeared in Coronation Street as Gary Mallet's brother in March 1999 when the twins were christened.
The British Meningitis Trust commended the
programme in 1990 for the thoroughness of its research in the storyline where Danny Sullivan contracted the illness.
There have been two crossover
plots between Brookside and fellow Mersey Television show Hollyoaks: Jacqui and Katie saw actors from the latter in Chester 1998, while Jessie Shadwick and
Alec O'Brien popped into the Hollyoaks pub The Dog In The Pond for a swift half in May 1999.
Former Neighbours and Home and Away star Richard
Norton appeared in 1995 as a fictional Aussie soap star called Shane Cochran, who died after taking heroin sold to him by Gary Stanlow.
When Laura
Gordon-Davies was electrocuted in 1987, she was in a coma for three months - the producers' revenge on actress Jane Cunliffe, who caused them problems by
quitting the show.
Bryan Murray, who was well-known for his comedy roles such as Shifty in the sitcom Bread, was deliberately cast as evil Trevor
Jordache to fool people into thinking he was a nice character.
Harry Cross was originally meant to die from a heart attack after three months, but
the character was so popular that he stayed for five years.
Graham Seed, stalwart of The Archers as Nigel Pargetter, makes regular appearances in
Brookside as headmaster Mr Thornton.
Eileen O'Brien, who played Mick's terminally ill mother-in-law Gladys Charlton, was previously punk Mary
Smith's mother in Eastenders.
Before taking on the role of Tracy Corkhill, actress Justine Kerrigan appeared briefly in early episodes as a
girlfriend of Damon Grant.
Judith Barker, who played plague victim Audrey Manners, previously appeared in Coronation Street as Ken Barlow's second wife
Janet Reid.
When Paul Usher (Barry Grant) left the show suddenly in 1993, scripts had to be hastily rewritten. Most of his dialogue was given to
Mick, while a disembodied hand was seen packing a suitcase.
Award-winning writer Jimmy McGovern, famous for Cracker, Hillsborough and The Lakes,
wrote some of Brooksides early episodes.
Gabrielle Glaister so hated the culottes she had to wear as Patricia Farnham that she took them home and
hid them.
Tricia Penrose, who plays barmaid Gina Ward in Heartbeat, appeared in 1988 as Emma Reid, a WPC with whom Rod Corkhill had a steamy
affair.
Suzanne Packer, who played Mick Johnson's errant wife Josie, is the sister of Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson.
Brookside had a
policy of casting child actors from ordinary schools in Liverpool rather than stage schools.
Ricky Tomlinson (Bobby Grant) was once in a country
and western band alongside future co-star Tony Scoggo, who played Bobby's best friend Matty Nolan.
Former Hollyoaks star Will Mellor appeared
briefly in 1992 as Paul Howard, the boy who made Jacqui Dixon's friend Leanne pregnant.
The entire Collins family had to be written out in 1990
when Doreen Sloane, who played matriarch Annabelle, tragically died of cancer.
Mark Moraghan took two other roles in Brookside prior to being cast
as Greg Shadwick: Karl Trevor, who dug up Billy Corkhill's garden with a JCB, and Colin Lambert, husband of hairdresser Angela.
Comedian Duggie
Brown, brother of former Corrie star Lynne Perrie (Ivy Brennan), appeared in Brookside in 1994 as Emma Piper's father Ray.
Sinbad's real name is
Thomas Henry Edward Sweeney. His nickname came from when he first had his window round, when legend has it that he treated the windows as if they were
portholes on a ship, cleaning the centre but leaving the corners dirty.
After a short stint as Lindsey Corkhill in 1991, Claire Sweeney went off to
sing on cruise ships for a couple of years before being offered a full-time
contract.

Time to bring back our Brookie

Yeh, I reckon we bring it back too...
Hollyoaks is crap.
When it finished Phil Redmond talked of one off specials being
made, it'll be nice if they do make one sometime. I used to love it, but felt it seriously lost its way in the last couple of years.
but felt it seriously lost its way in the last
couple of years.
Most people, including myself felt the same. A casualty of the the time, Brookside found itself in an impossible position before
any other soap (except Crossroads/ Eldorado lol). Maybe things would have been different if it was still on tv now-a-days with society more media
focussed.
If not Brookie, TV need a new Liverpool based soap set in Liverpool unlike Hollyoaks that is almost exclusively filmed in
Liverpoolbut set in Chester .
Now would be a great time for 2008?!! Come on Phil Redmond!!

Hello i am just making my first ever post on here, and i really hope i get a good responce, I have been intouch with the Liverpool Echo recently (mike hornby) and its about my DVD petition to bring Brookside back, Now i am from huyton and a online Brookside mate of mine from Essex came up with this idea about 2 weeks ago, and we thought it was a really good idea at that, So we made our Description for our petition first which i think is Really good and tells alot of why were doing this petition. And then it was officialy up and running at 10pm last Wednesday.
Now we currently have 173 Signatures in just over 1 week which is Amazing, I also have put up little small posters of my Campaign in the Page Moss area (post office, Newsagents) and in the (old swan newsagents) And i thank them for allowing that! And will be posting more around Liverpool soon.
The reason is When Brookside finished in 2003 we were promissed dvd releases WE NEVER GOT! And yes one dvd was released but was still promissed more and on the dvd that did come out there were Trailers of up coming dvd's one involving Barry Grant going after Damions killers,
Now i know the dvd's didnt come out because of poor sales with the first dvd, But i think because of the Grant storyline was so big back in the days of when Damion got killed i think it would of sold quite good. Or even Limited Edition (why not)..
But nope still nothink.
Brookside fan base is still massive on the net but has been shatterd because of who ever owned Brookside would take action so fan sites had to close, But its all coming back, even if it is slowly, And so we contacted the Daily mirror which the Editor put on his blog page at http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/editor/ and then we contacted Echo, And they have seemed to be very intrested about our campaign, And it is going into the Echo maybe tomorrow. And we really hope our signatures shoot up. It would really help us, And the Echo are also trying to contact Phil Redmond about this but he is away for easter so cant wait for that.
I also got my picture taked a few days ago by a photographer from the Liverpool Echo, And even my mate Dan from Essex drove all the way to Liverpool just to be here with me to get into the paper, And it just shows you how commited we really are. We miss Brookside it was the BEST soap on uk, Especially when you look at them all now, It done every storyline first in the BEST possible way.
And after 21 years it just still didnt get that chance. Look at Crossroads that has been revamped about 2 or 3 times? why couldnt Brookside get its chance? Why can Crossroads get dvd releases? Why cant Brookside?...
Yeah exactly i hope your understanding me now,
So i hope we get in contact with Phil, and Keep an eye out in the Echo for our Article,
If you wish to support me and Dan with our Campaign please put your Signature to our petition at www.brookside.tk (http://www.brookside.tk) Also please spread the word, This also helps Liverpool city itself as its the BEST thing Liverpool have ever had TV wise.
Thanks for reading.

Good idea.
I wouldn't agree that Brookie was the best thing to come out of Liverpool - maybe soapwise? It certainly went off towards the end and seemed obsessed with Jimmy Corkhill. Did the actor who played him ever work again? Didn't Redmond say that there would be the occasional DVD anyway?
Out of sight out of mind.
I liked Liverpool1 and was warming to Nice Guy Eddie when they pulled it.

I think you have to thank Channel 4 for the demise of Brookside, when they started giving it graveyard slots at daft times - but then you had the start of Hollyoaks too and I think that with some of the characters from Brookside going in to Hollyoaks, this 'is' the new Brookside so to speak.
Are you trying to get the soap to start up again? If so, that would be an impossible task in itself, that just wouldn't happen unless someone wanted to actually do it (and was in a financial position) - but also, if they released a DVD now, would lots of people buy it for it to be financially viable?
Most people would only buy a certain DVD for a certain reason - i..e something large happening, and with the storyline going off on a tangent everywhere, it would be impossible for 'newcomers' to work out who was who and what was what.
Phil Redmond sold MTV a good while ago, and going back even further, I can remember when the shops at Brookside (At MTV) were being built and just about before that, the former collage building when it was empty.
Couple of years ago I was taken on the tour around the set at MTV (now Lime Productions) as it was the footprint of Childwall Hall (see my http://www.childwall.moonfruit.com/childwallhall and there were a few bits and pieces of Brookside left over dotted around the place - I need to get my fishing rod out, collect em and E-bay em! :PDT11

Thanks for your reply jona,
The petition is to only release dvd's of old episodes example: The Best Of DvD, featuring all the best storylines and or documentries of whats happend since the end of brookside. or even a small episode of what there all doing now, (i know some of them are buzy) but thats just an example.
I do really think it will work, Were getting intouch with Phil when he comes back from his holiday and lets see what he thinks, almost 200 signatures without it yet going in the media is said to be really good, as petition of what were doing aint the first thing to come up off a search is it? there hard to find unless advertised.
I see what your saying about brookside being the new hollyoaks yeah lol. well hollyoaks in the city i think, but with changed names lol.
so is chilwall hall right were Lime pictures is based? we went there the other day but needed a pass from Gemma Haydon to get through.

Yeah it's massive, there are so many parts that you can't see from anywhere other than 'on set'. You can get a nose 'further down' in the Woods and you can see a bit of the set if you travel up Childwall Fields (3 hills) but apart from that, Google Earth is the only way.

I honestly doubt you'd just get a pass being jo-public. When I went, I was on business for pictures of the original stables of Childwall Hall in the area and I had to sign a massive contract to state that I wasn't able to take any pictures other than required. The chaps that took me round were interested in the website so he gave me the full tour of all the sets and around the offices and the like.
Personally, I would write to Lime Productions to see if they do tours of the set but with it possible to find something out during filming months in advance, I don't think they'd do any sort of tours 'all access'.

That's my own site that I've done so if you e-mail the website owner, it'll go straight to me hehe.
E-mail would be the best, ringing up you'll just be another chap wanting to blag it around Hollyoaks, set out a good letter with your reasons for writing, highlight your case and ask if they would consider you being allowed on a small tour around the location of what was once Brookside.
Good Luck! :PDT11

Being an Extra or a Backgroud Artiste always appealed to me ever since I beecame a student and had plenty of time on my hands between juggling my studies and a part time job in Tescos. The perceived excitement of it all, caught my interest and I began my quest to become an Extra. hey people,
Im Dan im new here.... im the other half of the petition, so to speak.
I did that banner what do you all think? lol... its above the ringroad as we speak so hopefully people will see it and go sign it the minute they get home/to work. lol.
Just wanted to take a sec and say hello everyone, im a massive Brookside fan but also i like Liverpool as a place in its own right... drove up there for the first time a few days ago and i had an excellent day meeting a new mate and getting to visit Brookside Close and drive up to Lime Pictures in Childwall.
And getting our pic taken for the local echo, haha.
I was born in Essex - living in Northampton at the minute but still an essex boy through and through... haha.
Look forward to posting here and getting to know people on the boards...
Loved those clips n stuff Kev - you were an extra on Brookside how cool is that, im pretty jealous... dont wanna get to personal but like is the pay for an extra any good... or just small time money... do people actually make a good living for being a full-time extra, or is it just a hobby/little side job...?
Just curious... but its great you uploaded those and thanks for the pics did all your family try and hunt you down in those episodes when they aired? lol

This is the Liverpool 1, I was going on about (looks as though it was on ITV rather than BBC. I'm probably wrong about the actor who played Barry Grant being in it, too. Anyway, I remember liking it (I think). Doesn't look as though it's going to make it to DVD.

thanks Jericho... its good to be here....
Yep i think Brookside was / still is Excellent!
Miss it big time and would love to turn back the clock and somehow do something to stop it going off-air... dont suppose it will ever make a comeback but they do say never say never... so who knows, stranger things have happened.
But if we were to be sucsessful in getting it onto dvd that would be something, that would be pretty cool and at least we would be able to watch all the best stuff all over again, and some of it for the first time like the stuff that was on in the early 80's before i were born.

Gorra share one of these one day :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I said corkhills because when you went in it had a living room with a tv camera and a tv, you sat on a stool and a video played and you was in it. Jimmy and Sinbad talked on the video as if they where talking to you and you could see it all ( yourself included) on the Tv. very clever how they did it.
I just assumed it was the Corkhills house.

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to have Liverpool soap Brookside released on DVD. :handclap::handclap::handclap:
http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/article/11857415.jpeg
Fans of the Liverpool drama, axed in November 2003, are calling on show creator Phil Redmond to fulfil his promise to keep the programme alive on DVD.
An internet site launched by Brookie fan Lee Brady and pal Dan Burton has already gained over 200 signatures supporting the call.
Mr Brady, 20, from Huyton, said: “When Brookside finished there were trailers for new episodes on the Unfinished Business DVD.
“But since then we have left waiting without a word about what will happen.
“We want to show Phil Redmond that there are still large numbers of Brookside fans out there and massive demand to see more of the show.”
Mr Brady, a support worker, started watching the soap when he was 10.
He added: “The fans who foll-owed the show for its entire run are itching at the chance to see this fantastic show all over again.
“When we get enough signatures we are going to hand the petition to Phil Redmond to show him that people will never forget the Close.”
Brookside Close helped launch the car-eers of Sue Johnston, Ricky Tomlinson, Jennifer Ellison and X-Factor runner-up Ray Quinn as well as many others.
The final episode was broadcast in November 2003, followed by the Unfinished Business release.
Satellite channel Living has an option to broadcast repeats from 1993 onwards and is considering the programme as part of its next season’s schedule.
A spokesman for Phil Redmond, who retains ownership of the rights to Brookside, said he would look into the matter.

Back in 2003, I said to myself "I'll never forget the last lines of Brookie". Now I've done just that.
Somebody out there must have a copy on video.
I'd be made up if somebody could remind me of Barry Grant's last words on the final episode. It's really doin' me 'ead in...
I've signed the petition and really hope that we get Brookie out on DVD.
I'd love to hear that theme tune again. It was great when Pricey played it on City the other night.
danfiesta87
04-17-2007, 12:10 AM
hmmm maybe LeeLad will reply and tell you Barry's last words and also the final words of Brookside... hes seen the last episode quite a few more times than me, lol... we both have copies ive got it on video i taped it to keep, hes got it on dvd....
Um i think the final final words were from Jimmy Corkhill, he was in the limo with tinhead...? or just a car...?.... and he gets out of the car and says i wont be a sec, theres one more thing i forgot to do.... i think those were his last words? something to that effect... you then see him run back in the close leave all the taps running n flood the close... lol... and he paints all over the boarded up houses Game Over, then he writes on the road sign "D" - to read Brookside CloseD, very sad indeed!
I watched it the other night its a great omnibus episode and i find it more and more sad each time i see it, to think its the end, but great stuff though, great Brookie indeed... where they all get together and kill Michealson...
Anywayz - i wanna know whats this about Pete Price playing the Brookside theme? Ive been listening in a few times did he really? Did he just play it randomly or did he mention the show something specific to it... why did he play it? Pleaseee tell us more its just were hoping to get our petition on there if Pete would give a shout out about it, maybe he did and we missed it? Dont suppose he mentioned our petition did he?
Cheers,
Dan

Yeah we did email him a few times on his shows but our petition aint been mentioned unless we missed it!
Barry grant last word were What do you want? an autograph? photograph?
Michealson: your looking at me again
Barry: So
Michealson:What are you playing at whats ya game?
Barry:....
Michealson I said what are you looking at?
Barry: History
Love it haha!
Yip you got it write about jimmy dan!.... but nikki said were is he goin lol..... i thi k thats the last word!

Pete Price was simply doing a programme the other night about things we all remember from the past. A few programmes were mentioned and he played the Brookie theme tune. Apart from him saying that Brookie will be long-remembered not much else was said on the matter.

danfiesta87
04-18-2007, 12:14 AM
i guess everybody is entitled to thier opinion but Brookside was a massive hit and still has lots of fans.. dont think it is crap compared to what else is on tv thesedays its wayyy better.
Dean Sullivan worked on the show for a lotta years, maybe it has a place in his heart - so to speak - and hes signed it for that rather than the thought of dvd royalties.... i wouldnt of thought the cast had much in the way of royalties due.... back when Brookie was coming to an end dvd's were stil very much a new thing i dont think the cast woulda thought ahead to 2007/2008 dvd' releases where they get money from them... but i could be wrong?

yeah it is the worst channel there is never anythink i watch on there now! im talking out of all 5 normal channels, not when brookside was on it! i liked to watch channel 4 when brookside was on it but apart from that its the worst channel, brookside would of been better off on ITV or somethink, probs would of still been on now!
Wasnt the soap supposed to be called somethink esle until they changed it to Brookside Close?...

Of course Phillip Oliver. He was on the next table to us and after our brecky we walked down to the marina. We lived in Childwall at the time and when we got back, he sent my two little girls a lot of stuff from Brooky. I think some of the filming was done in our road (Rudston) and in Childwall comp.
Hey mate, that seems a long time ago.

Im the same as Lee i would love to meet anybody who was in Brookside, and get the opportunity to ask them loads of stuff!

remember Damon & Debbie from the early days of Brookside ?
'Debbie' was sitting in front of us in the theatre. :)
.. can't think of any more for the moment. :)

Seems as though loads of people have met ex-brookie cast and yet i or dan have never mat anyone, i have only ever seen sinbad when i was well younger, and mic dicko last year.
Soap stars I've met; Bill Roach (Ken Barlow) - I met him at the opening of a new shop I worked in;
Saw him last Saturday at the National, standing outside the entrance and he walks past with his missus. Saw Sue Barker once we were in too but it doesn't really count cos she was meant to be there! Saw one other "famous" face but can't have been famous enough cos I couldn't think of his name :unibrow:

I have come across a few ex-Brookie stars over the years. Saw Dean Sullivan a few years back crossing the road by the Metropolitan Cathedral when I was on my way to work, sat next to Louis Emerik (Mick Johno) while I was eating my dinner in the Everyman when he was doing some theater there and saw Michael Starke (Sinbad) doing his shopping in Woolton Sainsburys. Years ago I saw Sue Johnson and Ricky Tomlinson on different occasions but this was well before the Royle Family days.
Nice to see Sinbad's got himself a job in Manchester now :)

Honestly I'm not making it up, I was just amazed at the voices I didn't pay any attention to what they were on about
PS Lee - have a picture from the Hollyoaks set - the 'wall' that you see is paper mache!! And this was taken from the 3 hills so anyone can view it!

Just out of interest, why is the barrier still there on Brookside? Took a trip there specially for nothing pretty much! Would have thought that it would have been removed by now! The footpath was open but wasn't going to risk it seeing as the security hut is still there too!

Aye, if you multimap Childwall Lane - it's the road that runs from the Church/Childwall Abbey downhill. Wait until you get about 1/2 way down and there's an opening to the right - that's the 3 hills. Walk up the stone path to the top and those buildings on the right hand side are all Lime Productions!
You're right - rightmove or summat. It was deffo sinbad!

You can nose at a good part of Lime from the Woods - if you know where to go. Get in the woods and follow the path around that Lime takes to the main entrance, you'll come to a massive stone wall - just go past that and you'll see the front of the Hollyoaks College sign and some of the Grange Hill set - that's all you can see trust me. You won't be able to see any other part of the set, I've done this from both sides of the fence by the invite to Lime and then having a mooch around in the woods. You won't see owt else I'm afraid.
But never go down in to Lime down the main road expecting a warm welcome, they have CCTV all over the place (one of my mates works on security there and they suspect everyone as trying to get shots for the papers) so you won't get anywhere.
Write to the MD of Lime and explain your situation and see if they will give you a guided tour - but you need to present your case well. I had to sign a massive contract when I went there and they were the ones to ask me because of my website. Good luck!

While waiting for me new TV to arrive, I had to slum it on the downstairs one with a video recorder (remember those). I had a nose through some tapes and I found two brookie episodes! They were of Patricia Farnham finding out she's got cancer and Ron Dicko's keyboard being stolen by some bloke on crutches.
There was even a brief cameo by Barry Grant but he didn't tell anyone to 'do one'.

I bought Brookside Friday 13th last week from Cash Convertors for £1:PDT11
I haven't got around to watching it yet
Lee and Dan, it looks like you've been busy on msn cos my 3 daughters have seen your petition and enthusiasm and are all for a come back. I taped the Everton 84 cup final win and as the pitch celebrations end after the cup presentation the screen goes all snowy and then what comes up - the remainder of a Brookside episode taped previously. It features Harry Cross, Edna and Ralph a lot and it's when the 'original' Alan Partridge goes mad and smashes the fence down. Good luck lads.

Cilla Black keeps her accent (against all odds) and Claire is doing her job, being an actress, which involves speaking in different accents.

If it did ever come back it would need to reflect life in Liverpool towards the end of the first decade of the 21st Century and not hark back to Liverpool of yesteryear. Storylines centred around Jimmy Corkhill would ensure that it didn't last long. I guess there are only so many times you can bring back Barry Grant. I could watch Ron Dixon being flayed alive, slowly... but then what?

06-06-2007, 11:24 AM
yeah ged we have put alot of hard work into it! it takes time and yes we did think it would be over at least 3000 by now! but then again we have only been in the Liverpool Echo not on front page. and 1 or 2 shout outs on the radio, and just some forums on the internet, and we want to know some new good soap forums we dont already know about yet to post on about our campaign! We will be promoting our campaign at the party and then hopefully getting a interview with bbc radio Merseyside soon.
then what happends after that we aint thought of yet but there will be somethink.

I like Claire's accent. Cilla Black often puts her accent on with a trowel. I recently heard her being interviewed on a radio station about why she isn't doing so much televison these days and she didn't sound anything like as 'scouse' as she did on Blind Date and Surprise Surprise. In TV land people seem to like Liverpudlians to speak with strong scouse accents. It's part of our, erm, charm.
Well i've got the best of Cilla Black cd - laugh if you like but I love Anyone who had a heart, Liverpool Lullaby and Step Inside Love (Lennon & McCartney)

I agree with you, Ged.
She had a great singing voice (really one of the best), and I always think her subsequent career was a bit of a let down, but she seemed to prefer being known as a "lovable Scouse personality"

I don't mind her voice. I recently watched a DVD of Ferry Across the Mersey with Gerry and the Pacemakers (?) Cilla was in it and sang a solo. She sounded good.
A 1960s Candie Payne?
Maybe not - Cilla's persona was never 'knowing', although the reality is that she is the most successful Brtiish female performer, ever - so she is clearly a lot more savvy than people might sometimes suspect.
She can ever say fair hair when she wants to, although people love it when she says fur hur and flashes that look that says What are you looking at me like that for?
She came up to Vauxhall a few years back to open one of the newly refurbished bridges over the canal at the Eldonians of all things ha ha, It was because of the Scottie Road connection obviously, another local, Linda McDermott from Radio Merseyside was there too. I think she's alright actually.

Funny how Dean had a 50th birthday party, but IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0838029/) and several other TV websites lists his date of birth as 1955.

I've got some friends visiting Merseyside this week. Is it possible to visit Brookside Close?
Is it still as it was, is the site secure. If anyone knows, I'd be pleased to hear.
Just thought it would be nice if my friends could see the place while hey're here. Where abouts in West Derby is it?

You want to visit Brookside Close  I'm sure Albion Market is still around too
It's off Deysbrook Lane at the Cantril Farm end http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=341640&y=393902&z=1&sv=341640,393902&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
There's a YouTube vid here of someone doing a tour last year
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omVDp8abang
I was watching one of them Neighbours tributes last night on BBC3. You can go and visit the set in Melbourne and sometimes even get given a tour by the actors, this one was done by Dr Karl (who incidentally is a big fan of Liverpool - the football club and city)

I've got a bit of news for you lads. The first 14 episodes of Brookside are going on UKnova.
http://beta.uknova.com/wsgi/torrent/find?title=brookside&uploadtype=0&created0=&created1=&sort=bumped
That's the first, you have to join and have broadband to be able to download it and you need a bit torrent program, I use Azureus it is a free download.
The quality isn't brilliant as they were recorded on VHS but I just watched the first episode and it was ok to watch.

I,m afraid, on that one I must agree there Max, to me the telly is rubbish, in fact I,ve made my decision to not renew my licence at the end of the year as I,ve watched very very little of the small screen this year at all. January, telly, you are out.:handclap:

leelad05,
Keep trying, they often expel people and create vacancies. If you do get on, remember to upload at least as much as you download, This is a great site, I have used it for over 2 years to keep up with a couple of Brit shows.
If you think Brit TV is bad people, that is because you don't have to suffer American TV!
I left the Uk before Brookside started, so I had never seen it before.

Hello Brookside fans, lol, Sorry to say but there ain’t been much Brookside news for a while, you know i had a baby and my life is now limited lol, talk about bad timing for the campaign eh? And, also, my other mate who is running it Dan is away in Australia for 6 months. So for the next few months i think it will go slower than usual, but WE will never give up even if it takes years lol... I'd love nothing more than to sit on my sofa with a lovely cup of tea watching BROOKSIDE episodes which I won a Campaign on. Not just for myself but for all Brookie fans. What a feeling that would be. Then I could start a campaign on something else, could be my type of *NEW* Hobby lol I dunno.
But I ain’t heard from my mate Dave for a while who is doing our website, he does have very busy times but I will be hopefully meeting up with him next week. And will talk about it. The petition has been going quick and then slowing down again, But just keep signing the Campaign. I Did call Jo Riley at the Liverpool Echo and he said he was doing the article last week, Most probs typing it all out and finding out things for himself, so it may not be in until sometime this week or maybe next week. But i will send you a short update soon as its up. Unless you wish to search 'Brookside' on the Liverpool Echo website.
Thanks all for reading, keep sending in your comments and questions.
Keep signing the petition on www.brookside.tk
Also you can view all of my Brookside video clips of our tours around the close over the past year and a half on http://youtube.com/user/numanoid2006 There are other video's on there as well that you may like, Gary Numan, Franz Ferdinand, LFC videos etc. And also Brookside Campaigning Interviews.

Some of the most famous houses on TV are going on sale, 25 years after
their debut in a Merseyside soap opera.
Fans of Brookside are being offered the chance to buy a piece of television
history, after the owner announced the drama's set was for sale.
The close of homes in West Derby is where the controversial lesbian kiss
took place and where Trevor Jordache was buried under the patio.

come on ALL BROOKIE FANS, bombard Granada with emails about the campaign, I have just sent in my email about the campaign, and was quoting what ron dixon said about 'Brookside should still live on' and sent a big email possible to read out on granada tonight, after they broadcasted Brookside on friday.
Their email is Granada.Reports@itv.com
This is my email isent them
'Hello Granada,
My name is Lee Brady, I have been running a campaign on Brookside since April this year for DVD releases as promissed by Phil Redmond in 2003. After seing your coverage at the close with Ron Dixon on Friday, and seing the full version on the Granada website, I would like to address to you our campaign. I started the campaign with a friend from Essex Dan Burton in April and now we currently have over 2,600 signatures and are going to be launching a website soon, Dedicated to our Campaign. You know Brookside changed the face of TV back in the 80's and there is nothing better to relive those moments again on DVD. Since Brookside finished in 2003 it has seemed to been all but forgotten by the media, But thanks to Granada for showing video clips and taking us down memory lane of such a great soap, and at least you showed more intrest that Channel 4 itself. We think Channel 4 has forgotten that Brookside had its share in making Channel 4 a successful tv channel and now its been left aside.
We really hope to see what Ron Dixon said on your video about somethink new to come out like a DVD of were the likes of Jimmy Corkhill went after leaving the close on the last episode or where is Ron and Bev, hows Josh doing etc. Or even old episodes, or best storylines on DVD. Well he also said to plug it as its a good idea. And i think it would be great to plug our campaign. our Brookside DVD Campaign.
We have done really well ourselfs with only a small peice of publicity.
Viewers can sign our campaign on www.brookside.tk get all family, friends and online MSN buddies to sign it aswell. Like Ron Dixon said 'Brookside should still live on'.
Thanks Lee Brady & Danny Burton.

I put my contact details as i am running the campaign which i wont post on here.
