A really interesting documentary about the 1966 North Korean team last night on BBC4 (well, interesting to me :) )
For some reason its marked as "not available" on IPlayer. It was called "The Game of Their Lives"
The Liverpool connection is of course because they played at Goodison against Portugal.
They weren't expecting to make it to the quarter finals and hadn't booked any accommodation. So at the last minute they were put up in a Catholic centre called Loyola. I guess it would be this one? http://loyolahall.co.uk/
The programme said that as they were all atheists they were really freaked out by the religious symbols throughout the place in particular images of Jesus on the cross with nails in his hands etc. They interviewed one of the players who was completely amazed by this. He said they even had a huge statue in the gardens which they lit up at night. He said they couldn't sleep thinking about it.
I searched Yo for 1966 World Cup threads but couldn't find much. If any one has any North Korea stories I'd love to read them.
