THE largest touring big wheel in Europe is about to make an appearance on Liverpool's
skyline.
The towering ride, which has already visited Hamburg, Munich and Dublin, is being built in Williamson Square.
It will be 35m high
(114ft), giving panoramic views and becoming Liverpool's version of the hugely successful London Eye.
After it opens to the public later this month,
the big wheel will stay in place until after Christmas. It will be covered in more than 20,000 white lights and form the centrepiece of the city's Christmas
attractions.
Business and city council leaders have brought the ride to Liverpool to thank people for their patience while streets are dug
up.
Christmas shoppers are battling with roadworks on Church Street and Lord Street, while main routes such as The Strand and Edge Lane are still
covered in cones.
City officials say ride costs will be deliberately kept low (£2.50 adults, £2 children) so as many people as possible can enjoy the
big wheel.
Carl Speight, from Liverpool's Business Improvement District, said: "The very large steel stanchions went into place over the weekend, and
the actual wheel will be built this week."
The wheel will open on October 24. Its official launch is on November 2, along with the city centre's
festive programme.

That looks like major fun! Wonder if I can sneak a pint of
mild up there and re-enact scenes from Bottom?
Actually, things like that scare me, but I seem to have this wierd psychological disorder that makes me
have a go anyway... problem is, once you set off, you can't really stop and get off if you don't like it!!

For me, it's going to be one of the photie highlights since....whenever!
I beg you all to take as

Somehow I think it'll take more than a cheap ride on a ferris wheel to
appease people bothered over the delays caused by the Big Dig. By this logic traffic congestion may get even worse as everyone heads into town to get a go on
the thing.
Seriously though its a great idea, but cant help thinking they could have built it higher. The one in Manchester (dunno if its still there
or not) was 60m.

What happened to half price for children?
I'm still upset that all the buses
dump you off at Lewis's because of all the roadworks, and that we're not going to see fireworks at (or near) the river.
EUROPE'S biggest touring wheel is
lighting up Williamson Square as the run-up to Christmas begins.
Liverpool is planning its biggest festive season, with the giant Ferris wheel set to
become one of the main attractions.

Disappointed with this poxy little wheel. I was so excited when I first read the news, but it barely gets above the rooftops of the buildings around it. Ah well, it looks good in photies:disgust:

Man, looking at night pictures is making me peed that my dad still has the camera.
I want to do some outside of town too, seen some sites that would be great like in Mossley Hill or Garston.

There are several trucks by the VAT office car-park (just South of the Echo Arena), with what appear to be parts of a large wheel. I did hear of plans for two, one outside the Arena and one on Chavasse Park.
