Here's a couple of nutters spotted in Church Street...

How long must it take these guys to get ready for the gig? Back in the 80s, buskers made do with simpler props...

Just off Church Street: 1980s sometime

Augustus: Bold Street 1983.

Anyone remember this guy? He was Polish I believe. He would stand outside a shop and screech away on his whistle until someone would come out, stick some money in his sock and tell him to **** off further down the road. Seemed to do quite well as a result.

The best I've ever seen was a guy in the centre of Adelaide in 1981. He was miming William Tell shooting the apple on his son's head, with help from a kid recruited from the crowd. He misses the apple and shoots the kid.
Much funnier than it sounds here!

Sounds cool Kevin. Not much more fun than shooting small children with an arrow.

A bolt, Pabs, a bolt. We're talking William Tell here, not Robin Hood!

I only know him from that stupid stunt and the Lone Ranger music.

If William Tell made overtures these days they'd slap an asbo on him!

He was really funny. Had one of those 'bird call' things in his mouth you used to be able to get in the Wizard's Den, Ellisdon's catalogue etc and chirped away at passing kids, most of whom thought he was great and flocked round him. A few of the smaller kids were clearly- and understandably- terrified, however, and were less than keen when urged forward by their parents to chuck some coppers into his bucket. Bit like my memories of being forced to sit on some smelly old Blackler's or TJ's Santa's knee when very small. No thanks very much.
I caught him in a quiet moment for the photo- but he fixed me with his beady eye when I took the picture and chirped like mad- yes, I chucked in a quid, it was worth it. What a character.

Nice one KH. We seen him when I was with my grandson, he was terrified of him. Spose he gets lotsa that though.

I came out of the side exit of Marks, turned right towards Church St and noticed a memorial stone set in the pavement. Didn't have a camera for a photo, but if I remember it was dedicated to a lady street singer called (?) Dance, who used to sing there.

Anyone know anything about her?

Yes, her name was 'Teddie' Dance I think. I think she was actress Jean Boht's mother.

Just that her name was "Teddy" Dance! She used to play a piano for charitable causes, near the plaque, till the late 80's,early 90's.(possibly later, though!)

These break-dancers were in Church Street today and made me dizzy just watching them. Tremendous strength and balance - yet not a pick on them.

This lad, John Farnworth was in Williamson Square during the 'Taste of Spain' day today. Lindy and Spike would have loved it. There were stalls for each of the main Spanish regions including Andalucia which I know they're both fond of.

Anyway, this lad with a Torres hair rinse and Spain kit was doing hundreds of keepy uppies whether with his back, neck, head, feet, knees, heels, soles, shoulders - you name it - well ok, maybe not that ;)

Truly talented, had us all mesmerised.

Some of the other goings on.
