What a fantastic forum this is - very well run and presented. I am based in Manchester and I love Liverpool! I would like to find out what are Liverpool's 'smartest suburbs'. It's for a podcast I'm hoping to do soon. That can be anywhere in Merseyside, not just the City of Liverpool.

By smart, I mean affluent, attractive, sought after...

Actually I prefer the gritty places, but this is just for research. Can anyone shed any light?

Wallasey is by far the best place. We have the highest number of restaurants and bars in Northern England. The highest per capita outside of London. Voted best looking people award three years running by VHM. The area with the most famous people living in, Rafa Benitez, Steve Gerard, Johnathan Ross, the cast of Coronation Street. The list is endless.

I should think so too.

Wallasey has the highest number of millionaires in the North West except for Wilmslow.

The Marina at New Brighton is busier than the Isle of Wights.

Wallasey is the only town to have outlawed the National Lottery because it's tacky.

No - it was because nobody there needs the money.

Caldy is often referred to as the "Beverly Hills" of Merseyside. West Kirby and Hoylake are very afluent areas.

I'd go along with the West coast of the Wirral and the Sefton shoreline from Blundellsands as being the priciest most sought after areas - look at where the footballers go.

True Kevin, the streets in New Brighton have just been replaced with Mother of Pearl. Looks good.

If you droped your wallet in Wallasey it would be best to kick it over the bridge into Birkenhead befor you bent down to pick it up.

You are a lucky man having such wise and gifted children. Why on earth would you move back to Liverpool.

How on earth does it survive without a football club to keep it going. See waterways posts on the Everton/kirkby thread - if you're bored that is.

I've only been to Wallasey once and it was horrible! My then bloke was delivering something to a friend and the street was dirty and packed. West Kirby looked lovely and full of retired types . I like Fulwood Park , parts of Calderstones and the Canning area. Sefton Park area has some nice houses and cool people but it depends on what you want from an area really.
As long as it isn't Huyton/Old swan or the north end i'd live in most parts!

How could I forgt Crosby?!! I adore Crosby and haven't been in ages so feel teary when it's mentioned. There are some lovely houses just before you reach the marina?

Depends on wher you go in Wallasey. I live by the park and it's ok. Seacombe leaves a lot to be desired.

The problem with identifying whole districts is that they differ across the area. Some parts of Allerton are much nicer and more up-market than others, and that goes for most of the other districts as well.

I lived in Allerton from 1961 until 1978, not far from Heath Road. It was on a council estate and my parents bought the house when it was offered. It was a really nice place to live, but not as grand as the other end of Allerton, after you pass Booker Avenue.

...or Grassendale Park with it's private streets that the locals won't even let you park on - except for by the train station and St. Marys church on a Sunday...

Can't see many posts regarding the worst areas, surely we're not worried about hurting peoples feelings?? My parents still live on Cantril Farm/Stockbridge Village and have done now for 40 years. The only time that the estate is in the news is when there's something bad to report, meaning that the mindless minority of wanna be gangsters give the place a bad name. It's a shame as the vast majority of honest, hard working people have to suffer because of this.
Then again, this can probably be said about all those areas classed as the "worst" of Merseyside.

Do ya know what Gyns , your'e so right about this , i have lived in the wilderness of Formby for 14 years now ! If i did'nt have my little girl i would'nt see a soul , except for the odd visitor .. I grew up in working class areas all my life , and was never left alone , or left without anything .. Suburbs , who are they better for ????

It really is irrelevant to where you live, as long as you are a good person and have good neighbours, some of the so called `bad` areas can be nice, if the people are nice to you. I was brought up in Norris Green and some of the old neighbours are still there, if I had to move back there, I would want to live by my old neighbours.
